glad to hear john hiatt is being 'allowed' to make his music his way and not the blinkin-blank 'producers' that wanted to make him everything but what he was. and, apparently, still is--a great songwriter, storyteller and performer.

I think 'allowed' might be a little strong. Hiatt simply drifted off the radar of the big companies (respectable sales but as the majors now only seem interested in guaranteed platinum sellers he was of no interest to them), and so found his freedom from the fact that they just stopped being interested.

More fool them.

good point.....just glad the music is available and he, cray and others are still making it, touring with it---plus it's more fun for them AND the audience in the small-to-mid halls, rather than the mega-venues.

It was fantastic. Cray seemed much more relaxed than when I last saw him (about ten years ago,) ahd Hiatt just seemed much more 'at home' than when I saw him on the 'Perfectly Good Guitar' tour, an album and band line up that had been a direct reaction to his dissapointment at the Little Vilage proect collapse.

And i guess having Robert Cray open for you kind of focuses the mind a bit...

i saw the 'slowhand' tour where muddy waters opened for clapton, and the two would 'just happen' to wander onstage during the other's sets....i wasn't sure who was more impressed with whom, and i had to watch closely as they traded lead/rhythm without looking at each other....heads down, answering each other's licks.
definitely some mojo on that tour.
