A20162099 - Jezza's Exiles Message Board

A well-written article.

A few little formatting points:

Please don't use to move onto a new line. If you want a new paragraph, put at the beginning of it and at the end of it.

Volkswagem --> Volkswagen

Headers should not have full stops at the end.

subjects are constantly changing -- you're missing a full stop at the end of this sentence

published in April 2007 -- again, it's missing a full stop.

Insert a space before 'Going to Seed' and before 'The Big Dig'.

and ,as time goes on. it will -- the punctuation is a bit confused in this sentence.

Hi Gnomon. I changed the points you mentioned. As it is being edited is it still O.K. for me to add more info about the Topics being discussed ,as I suggested in my earlier post? Pamela smiley - dragon

Hi again. I just did a search of h2g2 entries and found these about messageboards. They are recent and not in peer review but I thought I should mention it.

Those aren't really relevant, because they're not in Peer Review or in the Edited Guide.

You're welcome to make any changes you like to your Entry while it is in Peer Review, but be sure to let us know by posting a note here to say you've made changes. Otherwise, we might not re-read your Entry and nobody would notice that you'd changed it.

This is good, Pamela. It needs a little bit of tidying, getting the punctuation right and so on. I'll point out a few things now and try to get back with a more detailed list later.

1. Please don't use to move onto a new line; our House Style uses and around paragraphs, which automatically puts a blank line between them. Using along with this looks bad. So if you particularly want to go onto a new line, put , and start the next section with .

2. All paragraphs should start with and end with . This applies to the ones after the subheaders as well - for example the one that starts with On April 10th 2007 and ends with favourite music. It might not look any different after you've made this change, but on some browsers the look will be greatly improved.

3. The house style in h2g2 says:

- Don't put full stops in abbreviations, so it should be TV rather than T.V.

- Put dates in this format 10 April, 2007. Note there is no "th" after the date, and there is a comma after the month. It looks slightly odd, but that's the way we do it.

- Use 'single quotes' instead of "double quotes". This is more or less a standard in the book publishing industry in Britain and it is the one we use.

The H2G2 Editors

Hello there,

We don't know what happened to the first post, but we've reinstated it. Sorry about that!

Secondly, although we think this is well-written, we think it would function better as a Guide Entry if it was about Jeremy Vine (as much of it is about him), incorporating a section on Jezza's Exiles. Currently there's a lot of information in here that may be transient (we know all info is a bit like that, but this seems especially prone to it) and we don't really want to spawn lots of similar Entries on relatively young online communities. It's fine to mention them of course, but we'd be more comfortable if the focus could be shifted to something a little more stable. What do you reckon?

Hi. smiley - ta for restoring my post.smiley - ok If you look at my earlier posts and my replies, you will see that Icy North already suggested making the entry more about Jeremy Vine. As I said in my reply I have put a link to his BBC page which has a full biography of him and I did not want my entry to become a copy of that. Also the message board is open to all posters on a large variety of subjects, not just for the show , so I thought my entry would give future readers a glimpse into the opinions of posters of today.
The board is run by BDG,who has also replied here. I wrote the entry partly on her behalf ,as she did not have time. She will probably comment here later.

I have to agree that it would work better as a biography of the man himself. I've only had a quick scan so I may be wrong but it seems to be much more about him than the website anyway. The section on the site could be moved to near the end.

Unless you've actually copied the BBC biography yourself I don't see them problem of the info being on the BBC site twice, loads of stuff is. Not everyone who uses h2g2 uses the rest of the BBC and vice versa.

As I said, I haven't had a proper read so I'll have to come back to this, but it looked good. smiley - smiley

I don't have a lot more info about Jeremy Vine, apart from that on the BBC site I have linked to. However, I see the point about having that info here as well, in case the BBC changes his site at some time.

At the moment ,there is info more about the Message Board than him. I have made a point that the board is constantly changing, and mentioned a date on which subjects were being discussed, to give future readers a view of posters opinions at one point in time.
If I do make the entry more about Jeremy, I would have to change the title. Is that O.K. now that it's in Peer Review ?

I have been in touch with someone who has more info about Jeremy Vine, which she would like to have included. She is a researcher here, and I would credit her. Does she need to write the info into my conversations ,so I can edit it in.(as happened with my con6tribution on the Stonehenge entry) or could she just e.mail it to me and I could put it in from there.? Pamela.

Either way is fine, Pamela, so long as the researcher is credited and the write-up is original.
