This entry is about a recently created messageboard/forum. It was created by a poster from the old BBC messageboards after the closure of some of the boards. She created it for posters to continue discussions about the Jeremy Vine programme. Since then it has grown into a larger Forum ,where many subjects can be discussed. It has a friendly atnosphere and is a credit to it's creator.

Hi Pamela,
IMO, it would improve it if you rearranged it slightly and made it an entry on Jeremy Vine - Broadcaster. You could mentioned the website story in one of the sections.

Hi Icy North, There is a full biography of Jeremy in the link. If I did it that way it would be like a copy, Not everyone who uses message boards hears the programme and although it was mainly created for the programme discussions it is open to anyone.Pamela

Not altogether certain this is EG material to be honest. I looked at the new boards when the original R2 boards were closed and frankly at that time it seemed those who brought about the downfall of the R2 boards obviously hadn't learned their lesson. I gather the Jezza boards have been changed since which is good, as at the time I looked frankly triple XXX was mild compared to some of the stuff I saw posted then.
Assuming the boards have been 'cleaned up' so to speak perhaps this may be a better item for the post? I'll wait for others to comment further, perhaps the Eds could take a look.

Can I put my tuppence worth in here?
I agree about the downfall but I don't think I was one of the ones who led to it, or the dedicated team of moderators trying to run the site now. Since we started the board it has been extremely difficult to control that element. You also have to bear in mind it was partly due to poor hosting on the R2 MB and a few of us were continually trying to get something done about it and nothing ever was! It all started after the boards went DNA to be frank! Before that we never had any problems or very few.
A few weeks ago a group split off and set up their own message board and we have also abolished the XXX room. We are very strict on swearing on the site. The group that split off clearly wanted more of a chat room environment and that was one of the reasons many posters got fed up with the old BBC board because it went totally off topic from R2 and anyone who tried to get it back on topic got a lot of abuse.
I find your comment that it is not suitable for the Guide somewhat strange to be honest ie surely any subject is suitable as long as it is original it's still factual, regardless of whether it/was connected to the BBC and whatever the reason the boards closed is that really relevant?
Also any large popular board will attract trolls you have them here it is a never ending battle to control these kind of posters.
We know the show do read the board and Terry Walton has given it his full support. The Allotment element was something that the BBC never explored on their boards so this makes it more unique. Infact one of the new hosts from the R2 New Boards said he thought it was a labour of love and we had done a better job than the BBC in running it.
Pamela has very kindly off her own back, chosen to do one on Jezza's Exiles not Jeremy Vine. I'm sure we can make it a bit more indepth and thanks for those comments
I think the topic of how message boards and communities have sprung up from the BBC and why is worth recording for the Guide and why.

Hi All.
I'm glad that B.D.G. has joined the converation as she is responsible for the board. She is also a researcher here. I know she has a busy life and is now running the board as well, so I asked her if I could write this entry.
I see the point about putting it in as it is a recent event, but today's news is tomorrow's history. One of the guidelines is to write for readers in the future. If I expand the entry with more details of the Topics being discussed at this time it would give future readers an insight into the views of the people of today.
Hi B.D.G. You are welcome to add your comments to the entry ,Let me know what you want to say and I will put it in.
Pamela

Hi Gnomon. for putting a new link. I've received an EMail. The reason my original post has been hidden is "Posts to the BBC messageboards should not contain advertising or promotion of any kind. This may include links to personal websites or forums."
My post did not contain links ,although they are in the entry.
It is difficult to write an entry about a forum if I cannot mention it. Pamela

If your entry breaks the Guidelines, the Entry should be hidden, not the posting in Peer Review. Let's continue to review this entry as if nothing happened.

Hi BDG,
I was in no way insinuating that you were one of the folk who brought about the downfall of the R2 boards. We've chatted in the old Coffee Bar there on aoccassion and I think we both know who the idiots were. I agree that better moderation would have helped as well. I could see the writing on the wall for the boards 18 mths ago thats why I left.
As for the article, I did say I wasn't sure it was EG material, I'm a new Scout, still learning the ropes and if I'm not sure about something I invite others to comment or even ask the Eds to take a look. This is exactly what I said in my previous post.
Seems odd to remove the first post because of links when they're there in the article. Guess someone is clarifying whether it's "advertising" in which case the links in the article may have to be modified someway. Again, I await others to comment.
Good luck with the article anyway.
BTW, have looked at the new format boards, looks very good and professional now have to say. Well done for that.

Tough task is to write about the site in a more or less objective way "

Hi ST sorry you misunderstood me I didn't think that you thought it was me, just making the point that a small number of people have worked very hard to keep it in line with BBC standards. I probably worded it badly though.
Can I just say I am appalled that Pamela's post has been hidden and I hope it is re-instated the rules of advertising a website for profit or gain certainly do not apply in the case of Jezza's Exiles. Can I also make the point that the BBC regularly also do have official links to websites that do fall into these categories off their web pages anyway! So a somewhat bizarre rule....but anyway Jezza's certainly at the current time does not fall into that category.
Thanks again yes I agree absolutely more detail needs to be put in and it needs to be worked on, we need to put aside time to do that my probably is that Jezzas keeps me so busy, it's like an unpaid full time job so I have very little spare time. As you say let's carry on and hope the post is re-instated for Pamela.

Hiding this guide entry is ridiculous, and not just because removing it undermines the Peer Review process either!
A15926871 (Weebl and Bob)

How is Pamela's guide entry any different than these already accepted guide entries? Considered to be advertising? So, if we write an entry about an author we're now considered to be advertising their books are we? Or, if we write about, say, the history of the Ferrari company, we're advertising Ferrari's now, yeah? Because that's the logical extension of that line of thinking. Removing posts from Peer Review is STUPID! Stop doing it!

Is this posting suitable to replace my original ?
This Entry is about a messaage-board /forum which was created by a listener to the Jeremy Vine show. Open to all posters it was origially created to discuss news and current affairs featured on the programme. Since its creation it has expanded to include many other subjects.

Well actually not totally accurate Aunty Giggles as Pamela received an email saying it was going to be removed then they changed their minds, now it is pending a decision, quite a few days later..... To be honest I am still amazed because it was referring to a guide entry not advertising on the BBC for people to join the site, plus there was as rightly pointed out no link to the web site in the post above.
The point is well made the guide should enable researchers to write on any topic/web site anything could be construed as advertising couldn't it?
But yes I except it would be more constructive to have input into the entry itself and suggestions on how the content could be improved.
