A Conversation for Whisky

Hi there.
I just happened to stumble across ye good olde H2G2 for the first time since... well... somewhere around last Christmas. And anyway, my sniffer leads me straight to this joyous article!
I admit it! There is a Jack Daniels in my cupboard, but it was a gift, a friend of mine drinks the stuff whenever he comes around and I store it behind all the other bottles!
Back to the issue here, I was trying to make a statement regarding whisky, not ramble on and on about whiskey or (eugh) bourbon...
I have never tried the smoky liquids from Isla all though I should probably like to. I have, however, tired one of the finest whiskies to come out of the Speyside area; the wonderful and very delicate, rich amber coloured liquid named Knockando!
At the distillery of Knockando, Justerini & Brooks produce malt whisky. The whisky is marketed as a single malt under its season of distillation; the year of bottling is also indicated on the label. The notion is that the whisky is bottled when it is mature, rather than at a specific age.
(In fact, it does also come in a 12-year variant, but they are usually between 22 and 27 years when they come of age!)
The distillery goes back to 1898 where it was built by J. Thompson Esq., spirit broker of Elgin. He, however had to close two years later and so it was bought in 1904 by W&A Gilbey’s. It was partially rebuilt in 1969 and added a second pair of stills. It obtains most of its peat from the Black Isle or East Lothian and produces 1.9 million litres AV per annum.
And three of those litres are in my house; one of them labelled 1969 – which happens to be the year of my birth – and the other two labelled 1973, where, I am sure, something else remarkable took place.
And woe to whatever blasphemer who ever treats MY Knockando as if it was whiskey. Adding ice, water or ever (perish the thought) some sort of mixer, like cola or lemon... I take it the natural way; no ice to cover the subtleties of the flavour, no water to dilute the warm aromatic sensations. Just me, my whisky and a quiet evening by the fireplace.
(That is, if I had a fireplace, which I don’t, as I live in a small townhouse flat and it has no chimneys or any other fireplace-conveniences like that!)
Personally, I have never tasted any better alcoholic drink that Knockando!

Very nice tribute! I could write something similar about Laphroaig, but since I've been rambling on about it in practically every thread I've visited, I think perhaps I've made my point already...
