For most people, it doesn't matter. A very small percentage of the population (known as phenylketonurics) cannot process phenylalanine, and for them can cause mental retardation. It's also bad for people on MAO inhibitors.

Isn't that the same stuff they stick on little slips of paper on shove in people's mouths to test whether they're a "Taster" or not? I for one nearly gagged on the stuff. That would explain why I can't drink diet... Hey, and just 'cause there's not that many of us tasters doesn't give them the right to put stuff like that in our drinks! TASTERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!
