...well done... this sets a feeling into words and does it beautifully. It's got me thinking about the various Charlies of my own life... (hi Christine, Fay, Ruth, Lisa, Anne...)although some people might think I've been blessed to have had so many near-misses..

Well done. You've articulated something most of us could never express adequately. Thank you for sharing this vignette and letting me hold up to the light my own memories. Memories that could likely parallel what I've seen here, or diverge into unique pastiches, but all that will go to my grave with me. Unless, like you, I make the effort to tip my thoughts out onto a page and let my imagination color them in hues of remembrance. See what you've wrought? Now I must find my paper and pen, as well, and let the ink flow...

Thanks for these kind thoughts ...... i've just read the splendid "The Testament of Gideon Mack" in which one of the characters suggests that the only way to interpret our life is to see it as fiction......the thought lingers with me
