Swiv's Idea of a University

The cake went down a treat; I finished the telescope game (albeit way over par) and read all the Bagenders episodes. I also - round of applause please - finished the essay. I wouldn't, however, like you to think that I'm back on the work-bandwaggon.
I haven't, as yet, done any work for tomorrow morning's tutorial. I don't know why I say 'as yet' because none is going to get done. I went to the library this afternoon to look into it, and managed to not quite doze off... It's my own fault - I went to the gym this morning, in a bout of enthusiasm, and it has wiped me out for the whole day.
However, I'm not prepared to take all the blame. My reading lists for this class are so vague that they're actually starting to annoy me - which is impressive. I have a long list of all the primary texts, which the gobbets will be chosen from, but in no kind of order, or linking to the topic of each week. Then I have an even longer secondary reading list, which has a semblance of order - but none of the topic headings relate to the classes each week. Plus the library sucks and I can't find half the books (though I think half the half aren't really there at all). It's been OK so far though, because my tutor is quite happy to chat away at us, while we scribble down notes, and we have a 'slave-to-the-work' who knows everything - and I mean everything - about the course, so we can just listen. Or raise our eyebrows at each other in bemusement.
We had some exciting nights at the end of last week. The Northern Lights came to town. So on Wednesday and Thursday night I found myself down by the sea watching amazing sky displays. On Wednesday I had gone down to the CU group meeting, when one of my friend's hurtled in gasping about the northern lights. Having never seen them before I was bouncing with excitement and ready to charge out of the building in my socks and shirt. Fortunately for my health, Sara's arrival necessitated a debate as to whether or not we should all go and see the lights then, or wait a bit, or not go at all, or have cake. In the end she and I just said, 'look, we're going to the beach to see them, catch us up if you want' and raced up for me to get shoes, jumper and scarf, and a phone so I could call my parents and make them appropriately jealous, and headed off to the beach to watch the swirling greenness.
Thursday night's lights were even more impressive - I was down on the beach at midnight - and half the sky was covered with the reds, yellows and greens.
Still hadn't written the essay by Friday - and I'd been working on the thing for two weeks. However, I had a class in the morning, and then had been informed of a plan to inaugurate a friend into the wonders of The Fellowship of the Ring. I thought I'd go, watch that, do some work for a couple of hours, and then head out for the Halloween Bop at the Union.
Well, you know what they say about the best-laid plans. We did go out at the change-DVD point to sign Emma into the Union for that night, but we went to Tesco to buy some munchies, and ended up with wine, and a trip to Woolworths for a 'super-poseable' Aragorn toy. Fellowship of the Ring turned into Sharpe which turned into a trip out to hire Labyrinth, Ghostbusters and Sweet Home Alabama (at Mel's insistence, despite mine and Kim's wails) and then to the wine shop and Tesco for more supplies. The first two hired films have yet to be watched *sob*, but the rom-com was forced on us - at which we promptly started getting through a fair proportion of the wine before attention returned to Sharpe. But it was a rather good night, and I heard rumours that the Bop was dire.
I finished the essay on Saturday however; it's had a quick edit, and will be handed in tomorrow. I'm sure I should care more about it, but I can't quite make myself. It seems like everyone else is taking on my traits (Fi: 'he wouldn't like me, I'm sure he has more taste', Kat: 'I have soooo much work to do, I'm panicking, I can't stop, arggghhhh'), while I'm just wandering around mildly unconcerned about anything.
