It may be worth a mention, as I'm sure the first time that (Western) Samoa came to British people's attention is when they beat Wales in the 1991 Rugby World Cup (snigger, snigger).

Their most famous sportsman must be Va'aiga Tuigamala

OK MT'sRF: you've convinced me.

I'll add something about the national rugby side.

Thank you for the Tuigamala info: I'd been racking my brains smiley - headhurts for a famous Samoan player.

As you may have gathered: I prefer the lavalava parades smiley - laugh

Thanks ZSF smiley - smiley

That's a great link and it's reminded me that I have a few others, including a good photo of Vailima and some wonderfully evocative shots of lagoons, wafting palm trees etc. Just to make it even more real.

I'll get onto those later today...

Remember that although he's Samoan, Tyuigamala played Rygby Union for New Zealand, but he did play Rugby League for Samoa smiley - smiley

I don't need to add that though do I? I've just said he's an . I'm sure we don't need to know he played League.

Sorry, no I hadn't read the update when I posted the message smiley - blush.

BTW - completely off topic, but did you know that only one country in the world has Rugby League as it's national sport ...?

I think it might be worth mentioning Tuigamala played Rugby League. Without wishing to start an irreverent and irrelvant debate about the merits of the two codes (I must admit I find League far superior to Union, myself) I think he's more famous as an exponent of Rugby League - that's certainly where I heard of him.

Hi Nimbus

Fine, but this is an entry about Samoa, not about rugby league, rugby union - or any individual players thereof, come to that smiley - groan

Perhaps I need to go home and have a drink smiley - stiffdrink !

Hi MT'RF and Nimbus:

I'm sorry for getting grumpy about the rugby connection back there! smiley - sorry Not enough smiley - ale

Do you reckon that the entry reads okay without going into detail about Tuigamala's league career? Should I add anything?

And what about the history? Is there a need for some here, or should it be a separate entry? smiley - erm

For my next entry, I'd like to do one on Tonga. I went there in '97, so my info's a bit out of date. Has anybody been there more recently and fancy doing a collaboration?? smiley - smiley
