A Conversation for What Does the Internet Mean to You?
So many, many things.

Well, where do I begin? My first encounters as a student gave me the glorious gift of free pornography and naked celebrities. Sod typing essays......
Then I started work and actually use it as a research tool. Not always useful, but cuts down on trips to the library.
And email - all those friends I might never have seen again, now only a minute's typing away.
And soon, create your own pizza no doubt - drag and drop the toppings, get something totally unrecognisable delivered to your door, two weeks late - or someone else's door, more likely.
So many, many things.

I don't know where to start, but I started anyway. That's actually what happened with the internet when I got this computer just a few weeks ago. I had never seen such technology before, and was actually afraid of it at first, but I just got connected and away I went. Much more exhilarating than riding a bike. One of my first visits was to h2g2 (recommended by someone I trust completely). I've since discovered so much information I can't begin to describe it all. I have found information for myself, for friends, to check up on information I already had, the uses are infinite. I have resolved to continue my exploration until I run out of things to look at (or when senility overtakes, which is likely to happen first. I spoke to a very old lady (94) today on the telephone at work. Five minutes later she rang again, she'd forgotten she'd phoned, so I know senility is real, and it's out there! I hope if we make fast enough progress it may not catch up with me just yet. On a more positive note, I appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts with others, also I respect their opinions, as I believe it is vital to create a harmonious world in this incredible space.
So many, many things.

For me, I've never managed to get any really useful information out of the internet. then again, I don't try hard enough. On the other side, I can stay in touch with my friends at home for free. And, most importantly, everyone gets a say. Soem say this is a bad thing, giving examples that Nazi groups and other hate groups can express their opinions unchecked. yes, but If we censor all that we disagree with does that not make us as bad as those who spread hate and opression? Providing it remains uncensored, free and without large corporate controls (ie (no pun intended) microsoft), the internet will always be a good thing.
