My newest rejection, Mensa International (http://www.h2g2.com/a167311 ), leaves me incredibly puzzled. See for yourself:

"Recommend reject. Doesn't inform or describe enough about the society and verges on the mildly offensive towards those types of member of whom the author of this article evidently disapproves. Recommend that they try and write something a little more serious. I did enjoy reading it though"

Now I've been attacked by the PC police numerous times, but I have no idea who it is supposed to be that I don't "evidently" approve of. The last two lines absolutely floor me. A) When did H2G2 decide to be serious? Are we composing a bunch of fun prose based on the works of Douglas Adams, or another staid encyclopedia? B) If they enjoyed reading it, what's the problem?

Gargleblaster, h2g2 works in mysterious ways, I have just read the accepted article on Hunter Thompson, one of my favourite authors. It is a lot of garbage.

The editing has ignored any matter of grammar and leaves some
puzzling bits strewn in the very first paragraph. I found one run-in
sentence after another, verb-subject disagreements, unacceptable
constructions and a sense that the article was ended in Procrustean
fashion with a quick chop at the knees.

I've seen articles like that as well. Sometimes I think the approval process is simply a variation on the old "drawing straws" method.
