I can't believe those horrible moderators censored a 'haiku en francais' at the above link. It's just terrible. How can they not allow at least some foreign languages? And I'm an American. Technically, American English is not the same as Regular English, so I'm talking to you now in an illegal foreign language. This has to stop. I mean, the English language borrowed from the other European languages in it's development, didn't it? How can you allow the kids but ban the parents?

Yeah English is mainly Germanic and Latin in origin but I think their point is that they can't be sure what's being posted if it's in a language the moderators can't read...

Thanks Menz!

But French is around the third most common language in the world! Dans de terre!

Yes but if they allow French then people will want to know why French is allowed and others aren't...

Mon Dieu (-my God, so hopefully this posting won't be moderated)
It boils down to the fact that you can allow English but not other languages on the grounds that every person in the UK who legally watches television pays for h2g2, and the official language of this country is English. Sad but true; I guess in time they might petition for foreign language members of the community team but right now I guess h2g2 hasn't all that much leverage at the bbc...
Also, its not the moderators fault. They're given guidelines and have to do a job.

i agree that the beeb is a UK company but the spirit of h2g2 is one of a of global community. How can that be so without the input of other cultures and languages ?

In time I reckon it might change but they've only had a couple of months and they're still trying to get the site sorted with all the postings back...

Moi, je n'aime pas cette situation aussi.
(Me, I don't like this situation either. ( I think, I only studied French to GCSE ))
*shrugs*
But what can one do, apart from hope for change (and maybe write to the BBC bosses) and make the best of it?
*pours self a and tries to look chic*
