My life could not possibly be as satisfactory as it is today if not for Infocom games. It's a real pitty that the company isn't still around (or at least isn't around in a useful, productive manner... I'm quite sure that Activision isn't doing all that they could with the Infocom name).
Any thoughts on gathering some cool people together, and forming a new corporation? We'll call it "Infocom." Screw the lawyers and their copyright law. We'll have the support of the people behind us! YEAH! Every Saturday night, we'll go to software stores and torch any game with graphics! Whoo hoo! What fun!
It's a pity that many folks have to have moving images and sound shoved in front of them in order to have the game they're playing be considered of any real "quality." But our new group, "Infocom," will change that! Let's light those blowtorches! Meet me at Electronic Boutique.

I agree with you. About Infocom rocking I mean. Not the flame thrower thing. Anyway, Interactive Fiction still has its own little corner on the internet for people who want to write and play those games, Activision still sells most of the original Infocom games (except THHGTTG of course), and Activision's Zork games are actually turning out fairly well, especially since they have made a text game for every graphic game for the past two years. All in all, the only problem with Infocom folding is that Infocom doesn't make any more regular text games, and the Implementors all eventually either quit or were fired. Other than that, I think everything turned out fine.

What's your source on this rumour? Where can I get hold of it?

I don't know. You know, there are many games based on Infocom games (including the immortal Zork) at the IF Archive. I think the rumor, however, came from the DouglasAdams website.
