Don't have much time to write things that require research, but this has been kicking around my head for a while.

Nice entry. Is there a licence of some sort required to panhandle? I know in some places you need one to do that sort of thing. I didn't notice a mention of it in the Entry....

I have some poor dear 311 rep on the phone right now checking it up.
Panhandling is officially illegal - meaning, no directly asking for money. I'll need to ask the MTA about in subway stations and the police about everywhere else.
This may take some time.

I've been meaning to read this for quite some time, I'm glad I finally remembered to. First-rate stuff, Leo .
Never having been to New York I was reminded of performers I've contributed to in Chicago and St Louis (very rare in St Louis, they've only just stopped enforcing the street performance laws in the last couple of years). I much prefer the performers over the ones who want you to take a magazine or a postcard for a 'donation'.

Here's my - hey, where's the hat to put it in?
If you don't mind my saying - this seems more a how-to for those considering street performing in NYC than it is about street performers in NYC. And an excellent how-to it is too. You might consider a slight change to the title.
I'd suggest having a look at A8239999 to make sure there's no significant overlap.
Overall, this is a great read - very nice work.

busking! I didn't know you guys called it that.
Anyway, I didn't see much overlap. Busking deals with England, and the tactics aren't at all the same.
I reread my entry and it still seemed to me like only the last section dealt with how-to. Though I intend to add a section titled "when"...
When I get back to working on this I'll give it some serious thought. Catch me after finals.

I had thought 'busking' was british too, but then I heard Gamble Rogers, an american, use the term recently - '...when we were busking in...' - go figure.
I tend to agree there's not significant overlap - but you may want to link to it somewhere or another.
The 'how to' is just my impression, and it still leaves that impression. It comes across to me that the street performers described are used as examples of how to or how not to. This really isn't any kind of complaint at all it works for me. But perhaps others will get a different impression.
To the extent that luck is involved - good luck with finals

How to street-perform-panhandle in NYC... how to panhandle... about panhandling in NYC... This will require thought. Thanks for the wish of luck. I may need it.

I'd call it 'Busking in New York' or 'Street Performers in New York' - you deal with much more than just the 'How's.
If you could decide on the title fairly swiftly, I'd very much appreciate it - this is fab

No Skanky, wait! I didn't include almost any of the above corrections and didn't find out yet if it's illegal... So hang on.

All my h2g2 stuff is on hold until after finals. Then I'm going to clean everything up before next term.

I know the feeling. Emmily beat me to my last choice. Finals end on the 16th. Assuming I get bored during finals and work on my single floating entries a bit, I'll probably finish around the 22nd,maybe a drop earlier.

Actually, I added a section (offline) and zipped an email off to the MTA about panhandling already, so maybe within the week.
Assuming nobody else has anything to say about it.
