Okay, two notes... I think this researcher of the day bit should be incorporated into the front page. *ahem* *peers around*

Whee! Why thank you! Not that the idea didn't occur to me, though, cos it did, but that's for others to decide. It is of course wonderfully reassuring to have even one note of positive feedback. Thanks again.

I agree...
They could put on a disclaimer that they do not endorse the views on the site in question and that it was chosen randomly by a number generator from the available list of researchers. You might get some stinkers, but it would increase the chances of finding something you like.
With 20,000 researchers, it's gotten a lot more difficult to find your way around to meeting a lot of new and potentially interesting people. Take superchris for instance, had I not visited here on a lark I would have never found his site, which I found very entertaining!
Keep up the good work and maybe I'll pop over to Mark's page and give the idea a little plug with an appropriate link!

While you're all waiting for this facility you might like to test the new grey button at the top of my user page.
Let me know if there are any problems with it - it will time out if the site is slow responding.

Cool! Bruce, you and Peta both have this button I think!
I like it, do you mind if I "borrow" it for my page?
Good idea
Bruce Posted Sep 29, 1999
Peta already borrowed it.
Sure go ahead, I'll post the code in my journal so you don't have to wade through all the rest of the code in the page.

Ah, leave it to the Java whizzes to dehumanize this little idea. Oh, well, guess my only comfort is it's not quite the same, and necessarily can't be.

You can take comfort in the fact that the 'human touch' method has the distinct advantage of weeding out the really boring homepages.
