Hippies were about a lot more than is described here. Even though many of the lessons we learned in that era have either been lost or rudely ripped from us from (usually by the 'moral' left wing), you still have them to thank that you can live with a member of the opposite sex without being either arrested or shunned.
Mostly hippies were into individualism. The motto?
"Do your own thing."
