Blimey! Is this some kind of list contrived to get me contributing again? There are so many of my interests here: outdoor survival, cider, bingo, a... an... ants

But my eight-month-old EOS digital camera was found to be not working today, so I might not be able to do anything anyway

IMHO it's a great photo, and very suitable for the Entry. We've had a change of Eds since Photographers started, and hopefully they'll be a bit more broadminded, not that you really need to be for that photo, nothing wrong with it at all, nature at its natural best.

I wonder how many lurkers we've got curious at what photo we're talking about, they'll just have to wait and see.

I've accidentally ended up making an AV clip for my next Post article, so I might not be able to get it to you until Friday. Is that going to be ok?

I can no longer give a time as at 6pm tomorrow I'll be on my way to local PCWorld to purchase a PC for my works office. That time wasn't chosen by me, it was convenient with the two colleagues I'm going with.

Thanks to all our photographers who submitted photos. Bit disappointed at the low amount of photos submitted, maybe that's something to do with it being holiday time.

If anyone has any comments on the continual lack of interest in submitting photos, please enlighten the rest of us.This isn't a dig at anyone, just curious to know why we're getting so few submissions and what, if anything we can do to improve the situation.

I'd like to also everyone who voted and submitted photos. I also like the idea of suggesting ideas and ways to photo etc but realise that it's not a great idea to do that at the same time as voting it confuses people. I look forward to more competitions with you lot.

To be fair, I only emailed suggestions in response to Emmily's post:

'If anyone has any comments on the continual lack of interest in submitting photos, please enlighten the rest of us.'

And thanks for your input Rich, it was appreciated.

Opti, the voting and discussions, both on the violin photos and general were separate issues, the violin photo was not part of the submissions.

The violin discussion was an experiment to see if members would have the time or inclination to make suggestions to improve another member's photo - I think the (lack of) replies answered that.

I don't know what the future for the Photographers Group is - personally I don't mind giving up my time to help run it, but as we're getting less and less participation from members I'm not sure it's worth my time.

I know everyone has RL commitments, we have extended submissions time from 7 days to 10 days, and still we get very few photo submissions from easily photographed topics.

Don't take this personally anyone, this is just me being honest and blunt.

Emmily, you sound very down about the group. Don't be. You do a grand job; it's just that things often need freshening up once in a while.

For me - if I may be similarly blunt and honest - I lost a lot of interest in the Photographers because the idea had become a little staid in that it seemed to consist of an endless cycle of nominating and voting. I didn't feel that I'd go out and shoot photos just for h2g2 any more, because there was hardly any feedback or discussion about them. Now, I think there's a chance to change that; to become dynamic and more of a group of enthusiastic photographers who want to improve rather than a group of people who purely contribute photos to h2g2. We can do both.

I think it's worth a go, you know. Enough people thought that my suggestions were good for it to be worth a try and, if people don't discuss the photos, we're in the same position we are now anyway, just with lists once in the month instead of fortnightly. We're over a week from the end of July - time to put our heads together and figure out how it would work in a bit more detail. Moreover, there's a Post issue on 31 July, and an article there and editorial push might garner a bit more interest.

I know time is pressed for you guys, so I'll reiterate my offer of help. I'm happy to write/co-write/ghost-write a Post article and agree a draft with you (bear in mind the deadline is Sunday); help choose the Entries for the month; upload the photos at the end of August (as I've said before, I have server access already via The Post). Whatever you want, really.
