hi there
-
at this moment in time i have a guide in the peer reveiw
-
A23536712
-
we, we and my editor doing the editing for me, are just on the adding the links they require.
-
unlike any other guide i think on bradford mine is centered on the buildings old and new.
-
incase this excludes me,im on a digibox at home, but spend up to eight hours a week at the pc,s in the local library
-
if possible, after it as been edited, i would like a pic for the front page to begin with.
-
and if it was possible to have a pic so i can add to the guide under each heading.(after it become another guide on the list)
-
i can take the pics myself, and get them scanned at the library, and jpged, to say 200 by 200 or if longways 250 by 200, then add to my emails, i have a blueyonder one.
-
if the pics are jpg or b number you do, i can make them fit to any size with the height and width codes.ei the bigscreen on my space.
-
if this is a possibllity i can send to any email addy you want, as either in a full set or indevidual, thanks jimcrackersmiley - peacedove jim

I am sure the mods on the photographers site will help. One thing, when taking your pics, remember they have to be 200 by 200 pixels square.I have found this difficult with tall buildings.I would advise you send the pictures you have in full size, then, there are many in the group who will crop and size for you.If you want to e mail them to me at
[email protected]
I will crop and resize for you, then perhaps, they can be put into a fast track album ready for use smiley - biggrin
Ihope this is of some helpsmiley - cheers

-
when i have them on scan they are made to jpg, with a name ei the press hall, then transfered to the desktop, then i acsess the the email i have, blueyonder and i can either acsess on browse to individual pages, or on the same email to send back to myself.
-
it will all depend on the pcs working, they are temeramental. and a staff memeber that can scan, there are only a few that can. jim

Hi Jim, great to see you have your first Entry in Peer Review. smiley - smiley

Just so that you know who's who in the Photographers the moderators are myself, Wilma (U2192551) and our Founder Galaxy Babe (U128652).

It may be possible to have one photo applied, if the Eds don't already have a suitable photo in the BBC Photo Library, which take precedence over Authors/Photographer Group photos.

Wilma usually does the editing of photos for those who can't edit their own (we have to give her some work to do smiley - winkeye), but as bluesue has already offered, you can send a small selection to Sue, who can then see which are suitable for 200x200 (square) pixels, that is the Eds current rules for Edited Entry photos, it's not negotiable. Then you can choose which one.

The norm for Edited Entries that have photo/image is to have just one applied, some do have more than one applied, but these are the exception. Additional photos don't get applied after an Entry has been on the Front Page.

Good luck with your Entry smiley - smiley

hi
-
if you have seen the guide you will see there is a lot going into it, not to mention the reseach i put into all the guides in the past.
-
as im a digi, and there are a few still around, i would have like the pics for all the buildings in the guide, about 10 i think.
-
even if they had to be 200 by 200, i have the height and width code, ei the centenary suqare one on my page at the top
-
unfortunatley there are no others worth using the same way, sef found what she could, none but the screen any good.
-
i can get the ones i have taken myself scanned tomz i hope, but i still need the hilton and the multi storey( as the carpark is used by the hilton) they dont have there own.
-
i will send what i scan to champion email and then you can decide which to use if any on the front page, and if my guide merits a pic for each to really enhance the guide. smiley - peacedovejim

Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream

Jim, I have 39 Entries in the Edited Guide. My first one was done via Digibox, that was before Plain Skin. I had to do it over two Entries, as the digibox memory couldn't handle one long Entry, I did all the GuideML myself, I didn't have someone doing it for me, though there were no external links. When it was picked, the Sub-editor joined the two Entries together. We all put a lot of work and research into our Entries, that's the whole idea of Peer Review and the Edited Guide. smiley - smiley

I suspect one of the reasons that you are being advised to add so many links is because the Scouts and experienced reviewers in Peer Review know the rules, and know that you will only get one photo on your Entry.

Having links to photos of the buildings you are describing eliminates the need for photos to be added. No, Digibox users won't be able to click on the links, but the site is not run for Digibox users, and rules are not changed to suit Digibox users.

When I was Digibox only access I accepted the limitations of my access via this method, accepted there were some things I could not access, and was grateful for what I could access; I'm sure most Digibox users feel the same way. smiley - smiley

Post #8 attachments is the correct way to send photos, so that will be fine. smiley - ok

Emmily, <./>SubEditors-GuideML#LINK</.> says:

'Linking to off-site pictures is not allowed, due to copyright issues that can arise from this.'

Just a note of caution, as if Jimcracker links to lots of photos we'll just have to remove them all again smiley - smiley

There's an interesting debate on linking going on at F3719964?thread=4278247 if you're interested smiley - ok GuideML is definitely optional, though, digibox or not. You yourself set me straight on that one a very long time ago smiley - winkeye

Thanks Rich, that may be my bad wording. smiley - doh The links are not just to pictures, more like web pages with images on. I think they'll be ok, though I don't really know for sure smiley - erm

As for your last sentence, you have a much better memory than me. smiley - winkeye

hi all
-
i have a time for scanning 10-30. and at 1pm till 3pm im on the library pc i hope.
-
i will send you them and you can decide whats what, if you think they merit say,the monthly section, thus giving them a b or jpg to link to a page in guideml coding, great.
-
as you said, only one will be used for the front page, but after the guide as sort of settled in the guides, its something if i have them blobbed i can had in the guide.
-
i am looking today into something that could take the guide into the 21st centuary, till ive looked into it, i wont coment, but to say its will be through the bbc if possible.
-
my self personaly i think the centenary square one is the best, it as a boolywood film on the big screen smiley - peacedovejim

The H2G2 Editors

Dear JIMCRACKER,

At the moment we only usually have one picture per Entry, mainly due to time and resources. This may change in the future. Also, what goes on the front page is the Editors' decision! smiley - winkeye

Jimcracker7[magiclink.rip gone altogether. im back.in my home from home.

hi all
-
i do understand the one pic on front page, but is there a limit to a small one of each of the main buildings, on the guide itself.
-
althought the pics are mine, sorry the town hall and hilton didnt come out, sunglare i think.
-
if they cant be to see, what about as a bbc.co.uk url that way evryone does see the pics of each and it wont clutter the guide.
-
the one i have on my space can be as a click as well.centenary square.
-
or the pics can be as another guide in the guides as we do with the blobs for others to find,i have a favorite set on a guide.
-
the guide could then be added to the top or bottom of the main guide as a guide to the buildings, as you do with other edited guides. smiley - peacedovejim

ie

A1062659
-
i did in 2003
-
but instaed of pics and smileys, it could be the buildings with the name and street they are one for example.
-
its just like using another guide as the pr as to show the pics on a seperate link smiley - peacedove jim

There are only two entries in the Guide that have more than one picture in them, to my knowledge.

In other words, even in the entry itself, only one picture goes, front page or no.

I've found this irritating too, when writing an entry about using an abacus, that required picture illustration. But alas - h2g2 is limited.

So stick with one main picture that you'd like on your entry. You can link to others, I think.

hi
-
its logical, that to make a seperate guide of my pics(as an ameture) sorry about spelling, that they dont see the churned out ones, mine are for all angles, some i had to stand in the road, ie the st georges hall.
-
as long as the pics arnt actually on the guide, but a link to the buildings, what outside the guidelines.
-
the links on now, so will go to websites with a pic, but in some cases when where they taken, and professional, mine as i said are ameture ones. smiley - peacedove jim

hi and thanks
-
if i get chance and the wether clears, we are having a real rain storm daily here, i will do the hilton, multi-story and town hall
-
they are ameature, im not a photographer or writer. but i do what i see infront of me.
-
there is a thread i see thats i a decussion on the amount of links, so ive said a seperate page/guide with the pics added is not over the guidelines. and doing 11 oics as jpg or blobs cant be overdoing it, can it smiley - peacedove jim
