Mina

Was I right in thinking that once we've had three photos on EG entries we're entitled to a badge, or was that just wishful thinking?

I tried for those once before, impossible to get photos of mammals! Well, for me anyway.

As for Black Cabs, I don't know if I want to try shots for a rival entry. smiley - laugh

I've got some great Essex girls though. smiley - whistle

Mina, we now have the photo nominations in chronological order, so everyone can look at the Database and see what nominations are coming up, making it easier for those using film cameras, be great if you'd consider rejoining the photographers group. smiley - smiley

With no offence intended to yourself or your photos Mina, I have just started a discussion in the email group concerning using faces, this is what I've said -

>We had a no faces rule which was good enough for 'Growing a Beard' and
'Bad Hair Day'. I believe we should stick to that rule, regardless of
whether permission is given. I also believe that using faces stifles
the imagination. We have 'Sunglasses' and 'Swimming Caps' on the
nominations list. If faces are allowed in photos, I'm concerned they,
and Entries like them will be more about the faces, than the subject
of the Entry.

I'll be interested in other members' views on using faces in photos. smiley - smiley<

I thoroughly agree with you Emmily - it is my firm opinion that the rule should stay as it is.

Mina

I do have more time now, so it should be ok for me to rejoin the group. Would someone be able to send me an invitation please? I don't think I'd be able to find it again.

As for the delightful girls, well, normally I wouldn't submit a picture of people but this entry is specifically about 'girls' so that's the pictures I sent in. Sorry if it was against the rules, but I can't see that not allowing pictures of people will stifle any creativity.

There are pictures of people already on site and they have been used to illustrate Guide Entries for a very long time, so it seems very strange to try to introduce a new rule about not having pictures of people on site at this late stage.

Here are just a few:

A662979
A4197585
A3176291

And this page in the picture library - A426584 - shows just how many entries about people are illustrated with a picture of the person involved - many of them started with a photo and had to be 'drawn over/coloured in' by an artist. But didn't the photographers come about because we just don't have enough artists on h2g2, or staff to run them, these day?

If this isn't so much about pictures of people, but the worry that Researchers will try to get pictures of themselves on site, well, that's a different matter entirely and should be discussed as such.

A3790659 - And of course, there's this one. And yes, I know it's 'different' because it's Douglas Adams and not just anyone, but it's showing that it's not as if it hasn't been done before.

I'm just waiting for entries about all the celebs I've got shots off to come up in the list. smiley - winkeye

And apart from anything else, at least one of those pictures sums this sentance up absolutely completely. smiley - evilgrin

"working class teenagers and young women from Essex said to be sexually promiscuous, loud, vulgar, scantily-dressed and of low intelligence."

And this one:

"A social creature, the Essex girl was rarely on her own. She would often be part of a group dancing round her handbag at a disco or in one if the cheap tacky wine bars which sprang up in the 1980s and have since closed down or been converted into something else"

I'd meant faces of people not already in the public eye, if that's the right term for celebrities, royals, etc. smiley - smiley

I think it's great that we have pictures of celebrities, groups, TV programmes etc. We can put pics of our favourite celebrity, group, TV programme (shame the BBC don't have the right to 'Sharpe' photos smiley - wah) etc on our PS smiley - magicsmiley - biggrin

I've got an almost finished Entry on Sean Bean, if I ever finish it (there's the need for a round tuit again smiley - rolleyes) it just might get a picture, but it won't be as Sharpe. smiley - sadface

Re-post 12, what was the typo Mina? Oh and after doing a bit of lurking, I think I've just discovered something, but I'll keep quiet about it. smiley - winkeye

I still don't see why we can't use faces, regardless of whether they are in the public eye or not. If the entry is about something that needs a face, it's a ridiculous rule, and half the people in the library aren't in the public eye at all. The Special Constable was recognised because it was actually a real person!

I've had the invite, I just haven't replied yet.
