For the Journey
Maybe when the lights begin to fade
And every fire that burned's just dying embers
And Father Time has rained on our parade
You'll look me in the eye and we'll remember
When all's been said and done
In whatever has become
That you and I were friends for the journey.
And every time a friendship's been betrayed
Become the victim of some misdemeanour
Bewildered by mischievous masquerade
Or bruised because the game became much meaner
My ragged smile inside
Was easier to find
When you and I were friends for the journey.
As certainties unravel and unfold
And mystery starts whispering on my shoulder
And all that was important's being told
You'll read it on my face when we are older
Traced upon my times
And weaved between my lines
That you and I were friends for the journey.
You're traced upon my times
You're weaved between my lines...
And you and I are friends for the journey.
