wHAT IS THE REAL USE OF THE CAPS LOCK KEY ON MY KEYBOARD? i CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. iT CAN'T BE JUST FOR ME TO WRITE CAPITAL LETTERS, BECAUSE THAT LOOKS WEIRD, AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE THEM LOWERCASE AGAIN AFTERWARDS. bESIDES, IT LOOKS PRETTY SILLY IF YOU FORGET TO TURN IT OFF. bESIDES, i NEVER USE IT! pLEASE HELP!

i AGREE. wHY WOULD ANYONE USE SUCH AN ANNOYING KEY THAT STRENUOUSLY MAKES YOU HAVE TO REACH BACK OVER TO CHANGE BACK AND FORTH. sEEMS VERY MONOTONOUS TO ME.

happens to me all the time - I hit CAPS LOCK WITHOUT REALIZING BECAUSE MY FINGERNAILS ARE TOO LONG. FOUND THE SOLUTION: cut your fingernails and you will stop shouting at others in forums/emails and chat or other keyoard connected communication applications

This is probably going to be the only serious answer to this question, but here goes.
There is a CAPS LOCK key on your keyboard because there is a SHIFT LOCK key on typewriters. Whoever designed the keyboard for home computers and PCs wanted to keep the same fuctionality, i.e., allow people to type headings and such in capital letters. However, the functionality isn't exactly the same. Use of the SHIFT LOCK on a typewriter will, as far as I can remember, also apply to the numbers keys, so hitting a number key will produce the symbol above the number. Some older computer keyboards had a CAPS LOCK and a SHIFT LOCK, so that you could do either (or both).
If you think there's no justification for it, try typing a long heading or sentence in upper case (capitals) without using the CAPS LOCK. You'll soon get fed up with holding down the SHIFT key.
What I want to know is, who keeps moving the # key sideways? I keep hitting it when I want to hit the 'backspace' key.
