Spicing up my articles

Hiyas!

I have seen many articles in the guide with pictures, colours, bold, italic and other cool things. I am unable to find out how to do this. Do I have to write it in HTML? Is it complecated?

Thanks

I wanted to know the same thing about typing in italics. the answer is to type in GuideML this is a special kind of ' typing code ' ( I do not do computers, so forgive me if I horrendously mis-label something. ) The concept is quite simple. Either side of what you are typing you can add brakets which tell the super-computers at H2G2 to do something to the text rather than leaving it just plain. So for example:

<> -open bracket, </> - closed bracket, you will need one of each either side of the thing you are typing to validate the effect you are creating.
(P.S it is best to stick to capital letters, to harmonize everything that you write )

I - stands for italics: Sothis bit in between the two brackets would be in italics, but this bit wouldn't.
B - stands for bold: Similarlythis would appear as bold text when you updated the screenand this would remain plain.
P - stands for paragraph break: And if I wanted to make separate but related points in my text by putting it into paragraphs

I could do it like this.

The full low-down is given in the GuideML clinic, a link to which can be found on the front page. It may look complecated at first, but just try reading it through a few times and I promise it will start to make more sense. I only started to use it this weekend and really PRACTICE DOES MAKE PERFECT. I haven't yet got round to trying pictures and adding links and pull down menus yet but I'll give those a bash later. It is worth mentioning that I don't think you can perform this function in forums, only home-pages, and guide entries, BUT DO CHECK THIS! I hope that this has been of some help and that you start using the guide to it's full potential by creating entries that read well and look good.

P.P.S Those cool little faces and fishes are nothing to do Guide ML. In Plain text you can type symbols that when the page is processd will apear as little pictures, so:

smiley - smiley is a colon : a hypen - and a close bracket )

smiley - sadface is a colon : a hyphen - and an open bracket (

smiley - winkeye is a semi-colon ; a hypen - and a close bracket )

smiley - bigeyes is the number 8 a hyphen - and a close bracket )

" So Long and thanks for all the fish " smiley - fish is a > follwed by a < and another >

Right hope that has cleared that up.
