Oh yes, it has happened many times in the past. For another good bit of bedtime reading, try "The Physics of Star Trek", "The Biology of Star Trek", and "Is Data Human? The Metaphysics of Star Trek".
There are others, but these are the best three. If you can handle a bit of advanced physics and maths, you might also like "The Nature of Space and Time", a series of lectures by Hawking (he of the radiation) and Penrose (he of the chickens).

I've only really read fennman and hawking, and only one of each, the rest I just 'work out' (make up).it makes sense to me, it just isnt right.I'll get me coat

Kinda similar to a scene in one of the Riftwar novels (I can't believe the author's name's slipped my mind)

Actually, I don't measure my age chronologically, but by how much time I have spent absorbing knowledge.
ABSORBING knowledge?
Zulu One Posted May 24, 2000
Surely then your age would be a negative number, as you seem to spend more time giving out knowledge than absorbing it...
Where do you come from then (ie which country)?
To catch up again...

I don't think the point of interest is the question about how fast light is able to travel, the main point is: how fast is information able to travel. The basic method of observing physical effects and states is catching "light" (no matter what form of light: x-rays, visible light or microwaves). Nowadays it seems out of question that there is no reasonable other way to retrieve information than to detect waves and pull some conclusions out of the waveform. Not that I would be able to prove it but I believe information can travel more directly than just by using an ordinary wave. In my opinion all experimental results that seem to prove existence of speed faster than light like the tunnel experiments or the annihilation of tauons can be explained by the existence of "particles" (not particles in the common way of physical speaking) that carry information. The final question would then be: how much energy contains information?

I'm English, of course
The Cat Posted Jun 3, 2000
Yes, English (not British-ENGLISH!)
whaddaya mean 'giving out knowledge'?
I was just having a freindly chat, here I am, still in school tiptoing around geniuses, I'm just trying to evoke a response.

Aren't we getting off the subject a little here? What about the bloody whale?
Well? What is the Unifying Theory of Physics?
Gobo Fraggle Posted Aug 24, 2000
As with oranges, the Bugblatter Beast of Trall and grandmothers, x does not always equal x. You only need to look at y to see that!
