Bossel, well found that man
I note that the yarn was written a couple of years ago. As a New Zealander, I can report that some (many) things in Wellington have changed. For a start, the city is the unofficial capital of Middle Earth. Lord of the Rings director, Peter Jackson's production company (Weta) is based there. During filming all the actors etc were based in Wellington. Work on the next two films continues at the Weta complex as we speak.
Much of the inner city and harbour frontage has recently been redeveloped. This has had the pleasant effect of making the city one of the more "pedestrian-friendly" in the country. Wellington also boasts NZ's newest sports stadium and other excellent sport/rercreation facilities. The pubs aren't half bad either - good places to spend a few hours on a windy day. Talking about the wind, many visitors compare it with the wind that often blows in the US city, Chicago.
When this article gets recommended to be included in the Edited Guide, seeing that the Researcher seems to be missing in action, perhaps the Sub Editor may like to check with me if they feel the need to clarify things further.

Well this is a surprise, quite frankly.
I had not checked nor even thought about h2g2 for the last 6 months, and yet today was your average time-wasting Friday and I decided to check back. What a shock to find that someone had dug out my old Wellington entry - I guess that's what Lord of the Rings is doing for this country (although there was never this much fuss with "Willow").
Very much in agreement with your updated comments. Will endeavour to be more of a presence around here in the next few weeks.

Para-ponting is where you jump off a cliff with a parachute attached to your body.
Personally, I don't particularly like it. It tends to mess your hair up <winkeye?

I know that as base jumping (gosh! as soon as I started to post, I'm not so certain of the second word), which can apply to jumping of cliffs, buildings, etc. Maybe para-ponting needs a footnote.

Sure - although give me a week or two... currently the Wellington weather is far too good for me to be sitting in front of a puter.

Hi Slub!
Perhaps I can point out that your entry isn't recommendable until you've made the alterations - and there isn't much that needs doing!
I really like the entry.

Yep, working on it now. And I quite like Slub.

Did you enjoy Wellingtons summer last week?

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Feb 15, 2002
I really like this entry. May I suggest a few very minor changes?
Where is Wellington? Your article says "in the middle". Is it at the north end of the South Island or at the south end of the North Island?
Can you explain a bit better about the access road coming out of the sea? Was Wellington on an island and it became a peninsula or what?
Some headings would be nice but not essential
"pass-times" should be "pastimes".
You use capitals for emphasis, with IS and DO in one sentence. You should use italics instead. and .
Well done!

Including a link to the Edited Guide entry entitled New Zealand would be helpful

Hi again Slub!
Oops, there I go again, Slug!
Were you going to amend the entry in line with Gnomon's suggestions? I'm told the entry is not recommendable until you have responded to these.

Hi Slug!
I'm just trying to keep this one afloat. There are some very minor changes to be made - see posts 7, 13 and 14. It would be a shame for this to slide towards the Flea Market.
Loony, maybe you could take over if Slug is enjoying the weather too much. It would be a shame for Bossel's excellent find not to make the Edited guide.

Zarquon, IMO, this is in good enough condition to recommend - I've certainly had to sub stuff that is far worse.
If a sub needs further information, they can contact me easily enough.

Loony,
I've recommended it *twice*! The first time, it needed a footnote about base jumping, the second time, they were waiting for Slug to incorporate Gnomon's suggestions.
Not sure what more I can do. I think it should be recommended, however ...

As far as I can see, this entry needs two things:
1. To specify where Wellington is, that is, at the south end of North Island, rather than just "in the middle". This can be done by a sub-editor.
2. To explain the bit where the road to Wellington came up out of the sea during an earthquake more clearly. Can any New Zealander provide information on this? If you provide the info here in the Peer Review thread, the sub-ed will have enough to go on.
