Hi guys sorry I'm (4 days) late but I'm from Oz...
Sounds like a Traffic song and I'll make a stab at it being
called 'Can't find my way home'
NTTIV
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Nov 28, 1999
Can't Find My Way Home is unbelievably correct.
Traffic is unbelievably close.
The song is by Blind Faith, which of course was co-founded (with Eric Clapton) by ex-Traffic Steve Winwood. After BF, Steve reformed Traffic.

I don't know either but I'll add an extra one for speed...:
"Fame is but a fruit tree"
"So very unsound"
"It can never flourish"
"'till it's stalk is in the ground"...

Not a clue TM -mine was Billy Bragg "Little Time Bomb"
from "Workers Playtime"
A new one; and MA should find this one a breeze
Sitting all alone by the fireside
Listen to the wind in the chimney tops...
I hope you appreciate this -I had to unpack my LP's
for this one (poor old guy's memory is fading)

Ok MA, time and mebbee a couple more lines (Oh I have been cruel)
'Haven't slept for days and I'm still wide-eyed
Trying not to think ,but my mind won't stop'

Sounds like a sort of Maiden thing. It seems so damn familer.
Ok, two more lines and then if I can't get it I'll give up!

Fate Amenable To Change Posted Dec 4, 1999
If there's a smile on my face
It's only there trying to fool the public
But when it comes down to fooling you
Well now honey that's quite a different subject
So don't let this glad expression
Give you the wrong impression
Cos really I'm sad, so sad
I'm hurt and I want you so bad
Like a clown I appear to be glad
ooo ooh
So don't let this smile I wear
Make you feel like I don't care

Jeez! you want the whole song?
I'll put it together for you in case the Traffic is too
heavy where you are.
Sitting all alone by the fireside
Listen to the wind in the chimney tops
Haven't slept for days and I'm still wide eyed
Trying not to think but my mind won't stop
Evening shadows making my heart sing out
With the setting sun turning leaves to brown
If I had a lover whose heart was true
I wouldn't be alone in this *insert title here*

The 'Traffic' is too heavy? Is that a blatant clue?
Well actually I found myself humming to Can I Play With Madness by none other than Iron Maiden.
So obviosley wrong.
I give up.

Evening Blue by Traffic off
Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory
Ok another one (I'll keep it in the family)
Now bear in mind I haven't heard this song
for well over ten years...and it goes
a little something like this..
"you thought the leaden winter
would bring you down forever
so you rode upon a steamer
to the violence of the sun"
A gift (I think)

Talres Of Brave Ulysses by Cream.
Off Disraeli Gears.
That song has great sentimental value to me. Last Christmas, when I was holed up in bed with flu, I spent as good deal of time listening to History Of Eric Clapton. So now I tend to assiciate Sea Of Joy, I Don't Want To Discuss It, I Ain't Got You etc with Xmas. Gives me a nice fuzzy feeling inside.

Hokey-pokey.
"Sailing down behind the sun,
waiting for the prince to come.
Praying for the healing rain,
to restore my soul again.
Just a toe-rag on the run,
how did I get here, what have I done?
When will all my hopes arise,
how will I know it, when I look in *title*"

You're pretty close with the 'eyes' bit. You may not have written the song, but the person who did was ex-Cream...
