When in doubt... stall 'em!
'Paula came from Washington with long golden hair, twenty-eight dollars in a fake silk purse and a leather skirt to wear'

*blink* ... a miss already?? (Well, two, then, as I missed yours as well. ) Hmm... perhaps another line, in no particular order:
Raven hair, ruby lips, sparks fly from her fingertips.

Not another one of those 'ooh, that sounds familiar' moments!
Okay, I counter attack with the next line of mine...
'Shane came from Dublin town, from the old world so green, counterfeit ticket into JFK, in the land of his dreams'.
Incidentally, the song title is also the album title.

We seem to be getting a lot of those. Yours is putting me in mind of about three different songs, methinks.. and probably none of those are the right one.
'Nother grab-bag line from mine:
"She's a restless spirit on an endless flight"

OK this is just to get an idea of what music you may be into.
Here's a lyric, if anyone gets it, cool, if not don't worry.
It's quite obscure unless you know it!!
"(title) ah ha
They're never too far
from battlefields so glorious
out in a world of their own
They'll never come down
'til once again victorious"

Not even a bell on that one, Wiz... and my grab-bag is dwindling...
This fits onto the already-laid puzzle matrix (somewhere ):

Anonymouse, yours have a sort of 1980:s spirit to it. Is that the right decade?

Bit quiet around here. What if I add an easy one:
'Right now is the way it's going to be from
now until forever,
let's have less of getting clever with me'

Why do I get this terrible sense of dread whenever anyone posts 'an easy one'?! Nope, no idea again.
I think it's got to the point where we need to clear up some of the unsolved lyrics in order to 'move on'. For my part, the Paul McCartney 'there's only one thing that money can't buy...' one, which was in another forum anyway, is called 'All My Trials'.
Whilst it's easy* to recognise a song heard on the radio, it's clearly proving to be more difficult when presented with simply the words. Can I recommend that we stick with 'mainstream'/popular songs (eg Layla, with which NTT started) that people have a chance of guessing (eg by hearing it on the radio!), and perhaps choosing some of the less well-known lyrics from the song (ie not the chorus!!)

*as in, you find yourself singing along, but couldn't repeat it if someone asked you to!

Me neither!
But it's in my guitar book ("words and music for 50 hits"!)
Just to lighten things up, how about this:
Every sperm is sacred, every sperm is great, if a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate...

"Main Stream" is a bit objective, as it depends on one's musical tastes. All the tunes I've posted from so far were hits in their days, and some are still being played round here. That's another thing.. Mainstream -where- eh?
Rather than give an answer I think I'll give it one more college (alumni) try.
"Raven hair, ruby lips
Sparks fly from her fingertips
Echoed voices in the night,
She's a restless spirit on an endless flight.
Ooo hoo, [title], see how high she flies
Ooo hoo, [title], she got the moon in her eyes."
(If that don't do it, I give up! )
Oh, one more hint. The artists also did "Hotel California" ... Miss that one, why doncha?

That's the sprit, 'Sus!
And if the sperm is wasted
on the dusty ground
God shall make thee pay for
each sperm that can't be found

"Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don't let the sun blast your shadow
Don't let the milk float blind your mind....."
and
"Things ain't cooking in my kitchen
Strange affliction wash over me
Julius Ceasar and the Roman Empire
Couldn't conquer the blue sky"

Hey I'll give you that it was Crowded house, The other one is by someone who started in the 60's was BIG in the 70,s and is still going strong(ish) today and like Peter Gabriel has a strong interest in the internet etc
The first verse may be easier
"Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger then another finger then cigarette
The wall to wall is calling, it lingers , but still you forget..
