"And though you wanted to last forever
You know you never will,
You know you never will...
And the patches make the goodbye harder still."

Nnnnnno. Nope. Not a single bell.
Anyone else?

No takers? Recapping:
"[Song Title] what would you leave us this time?
You're only dancing on this earth for a short while,
And though your dreams will toss and turn you now
They won't vanish away like your dad's best jeans
Denim blue, faded up to the sky
And though you wanted to last forever, you know you never will,
You know you never will...
And the patches make the goodbye harder still."
C'mon now... it's not obscure.. It was a hit (though I'm not saying when.

If it's not obscure, it's damnably difficult!
How about this one...
Red and white/blue suede shoes
I'm Uncle Sam /how do you do?
Gimme five/I'm still alive
Ain't no luck/I learned to duck"
And no fair running to my home page for the answer!

My goodness... Shouldn't be that difficult... How about initials?
OVY by CS. Circa early to mid 70's. Can't get any easier than that without giving it completely away!
Unca: Yours is probably Grateful Dead, but that's just an obscure guess from other threads.

Right you are mouse!! The band is the Grateful Dead...it's not one of their biggest songs. But there's an entire page devoted to it at my user page!
Go ahead and cheat!

*Ding, ding, ding, ding!!!!* You got it!!
And the Mouse's is Oh, Very Young (girl?) by Cat Stevens! I don't know where my head was on that one!!
I think if I would have heard the "tune" I would have got it! Shouldn't this game be called "Name That Lyric?"
OK, who's got the next one??

"Silly little sniggers from the women liberators But I'll stand and hold my post Polished buttons and erect I'll raise the flag
I'll show those women who's the most"
(quick clue , this is a song from a band who were one of the biggest selling groups of the 80,s) no running to my home page for more clues!!!

As if.....!
And while I'm here, let's just throw a third lyrical challenge into the melting pot...
'When I heard the sprinklers whisper shimmer in the haze of summer lawns' (NO cheating! It's too obvious anyway, I think!)

I used to be able to do this once , now i don't know any of it, someone post some new wave type stuff from the late 70's early 80's, The only thing I know about lawns is Joni Mitchell "The Hissing of Some..er lawns!"

Musically related comment, though unrelated to any of the lyrics above:
Recommended listening - Sting, Ten Summoner's Tales. This man has an amazing lyric writing talent, and real variety of musical influences and styles. Just wanted to share that with you!

Since I can't think of any of the above (all the bells are ringing on a couple, but no one is answering) and since no one is guessing to help kick loose the cobwebs, I thought I'd through this one (that some unconsiderate sod stuck in my braincells ) out there:
"If your head says, 'Forget it!' But your heart's still smokin...Kick of the sand, 'cause Honey her love's still flowin."
