Help! I've broken my home page! My researcher number and other details from the right hand column have vanished. Does this mean I'm a free man not a number? All I tried to do was follow the instructions on how to edit my home page. Is there a comprehensive guide for thickos like me on how to have a nice greeting with a picture, and how to to rid of 14-week old journal entries? Please help!

You might want to check out the FAQ - just click on the 'don't panic' button at the top of the page.
I've changed your page into a plain text page, which means you don't need to worry about GuideML.
If you want to add pictures, then you will have to change your page's type to GuideML. You can find instructions for using GuideML at http://www.h2g2.com/A155701

Call me Completely thick
but I don't understand Guide ML at all, nor the link. I want to change my User Page, make it really snazzy etc, but don't know how. Each time I try, when I click "Preview", everything crashes - so presumably I'm doing something wrong. So, could you tell me what to do and what goes where in nice easy stages - starting off with how to have

As long as you understand how tags work it's reasonably simple. The first tag goes before what you want to show and the second goes after, so if you wanted a header with the title "Bobs Free Beer" in it you would do this...
Bobs Free Beer
Don't forget the / in the end tag. Tags almost always come in pairs by the way and need to be finished. Ones like the line break have funny things done to them,
For a paragrah of text try this...
Put any text that you wan to appear within these tags
How's that?

Another -very- important thing to remember in GuideML is that -all- paramater values need to be in double quotation marks. For example,
NOT
which would be acceptable in regular HTML, but not Guide[X]ML.
GuideML is generally very good at pointing out -where- your errors are, but sometimes not specific on what. In the above (bad) example you'd get a message that "width=60" is not a valid IMG tag item (or something like that) when all you really need to do is add the quotation marks.

No, it's actually a server, but apparently he took down the httpd on that link. The .cx is for Christmas Island!
