I've never read the original Liff-books, only the "translations" of them, which means some hard-working people collected Finnish place names with no meaning and created explanations for them - some of them from the original books and some from their own imagination... But I guess they wouldn't be much of joy for anyone here because the idea gets lost if one doesn't speak Finnish... So forget the whole thing... 
But hey! What IS the meaning of Liff?????
