Short and sweet. Does it make sense?

Grand.

You could do the Story of Thorn as a companion piece, eh?

But not the whole story: yogh is still used in the International Phonetic Alphabet, but here it represents a 'zh' sound (as in the Russian 'Zhifago').

The Russian zh letter is really an independent letter, although it looks the same. It is a Ze.

Yes, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the symbol referred to as a 'yog' in the IPA which looks just the same as the yogh.

Ah, so the IPA uses the Russian letter to represent the Russian sound, but calls it yog?

No, the IPA uses a yogh to represent yog.

According to wikipedia, the IPA uses the letter ezh to represent the zh sound, and it is frequently confused with yogh. Ezh has an angular top, while yogh has a rounded top.

Well, I've heard it referred to as a yog in the past. I'll let you make up your mind.

I'm happy not to include the IPA letter, as there seems to be confusion there. So I consider this to be finished.

Sounds like a sensible decision to me.

Excellent reading!

Strange thing about the Normans -- when they came to Ireland they were happy to learn Irish with all its special gutturals. Perhaps they found the English more of a pushover?

Interesting point. I hadn't thought of that before. Ireland never spoke Norman-Irish, did it? Whereas Middle English was a combination of Anglo-Saxon and French.
