This section is called Hag's Glen. It's fairly flat, a gentle uphill stroll with the peak ahead of you (and slightly to the right) and other arms of the mountain coming down on both sides.
We did it once in a raging summer storm, with thunder echoing around the tops. Very dramatic. By the time we'd got to the foot of the Devil's Ladder the rain was slating down on us, so we turned back.
We'd done it from Cronin's before, camping in their field for a small fee.
We also climbed this summer, starting at the other end of the Reeks and coming over Carauntoohill and passing the top of the Devil's Ladder before finally dropping into the Gap of Dunloe (near Kate Kearney's end of the Gap).
It's good walking country.
