Loath as I am to staunch the flow of generous sentiments from Mr Bywater's column, I feel compelled to point out that a person (or persona) who employs a butler and consumes Krug, room temperature or otherwise, would surely not have facial characteristics suggestive of "a strict religious code of self-denial".

Instead that chiselled appearance may be better described as aesthetic, i.e. "relating to the sense of what is beautiful".

Blame the word-of-the-day concept for my pedantry before you hurl those handfuls of rotting vegetables ('Bywater's vocabulary has gone napiform')

Actually, I believe that 'loath' is the preferred spelling in that situtation:

I think the first of the two spellings fits the context better.
