Don't know about this list... for instance, Eddie Izzard has said himself he is not gay, he is a transvestite but he still fancies women, and women still fancy him... believe me!

Indeed, but he still counts as queer. The list is of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transvestite etc. It's a queer list, not an exclusively gay one and Queer is quite different to gay. More fun for one thing.
Eddy Izzard is on there for being openly transvestite.
But if you want to object and get him removed from the list there is a procedure for that.

I thought Izzy Izzard called himself a cross-dressing Lesbian?
Speckly, I agree it's a queer list, but the title does say "Great gays".

I can't help that I have this alliterative tic...(who said illiterative?)
There is an explanation on the page now, so shouldn't be so confusing.

I'm a little confused about some of the selections..I mean, Christina Aguilera? I'm curious to read more about the exploits of the greek philosophers. Do you think they were actually 'alternative lifestyle' for the times in which they lived?
Alan Cumming on the list confirmed my suspicions - he's much too cute to be straight .

Christina Aguilera wasn't one of my picks, but the rules are that if no one challenges it it goes on. So, some of the names are dodgy claims.
I don't know how much it was an 'alternative' lifestyle, pederasty seems to have been pretty mainstream for the Greeks. But they were certainly alternative in other ways. But for the real Alternative Lifestyle for the time look to Sappho and her all woman poet colony on Lesbos. Cool stuff, even if only fragments of the (deeply passionate) poetry remains.
