Here is some more info on the froggy version of the Magic Roundabout.
But last time I checked the links didn't work.
I'll have another go (if you want me to) in the meantime here's some to be going on with....
+++++++++++++++++++++++
This is the song of the program:
======================================
Refrain 1:
oh oh oh oh
Refrain 1
Refrain 2
C'est moi Pollux
Toujours cabot mais pas star de luxe
Je suis un grand acteur dramatique
j'vois pas pourquoi on m'trouve comique
oh oh oh oh
C'est moi Pollux
Toujours cabot mais pas star de luxe

The basics of the French Magic Roundabout, as far as I understand, are as follows. Dougal is called Pollux, named after the real-life pet dog of Serge Danot, the MR creator. So he's *not* anything to do with DeGaulle. Florence is called Margot in French, and the sugarlumps are just plain sugarlumps.
Originally, MR was just for French kids and had no real adult appeal - the stories are all rather dull, and of the "what shall I do today? Let's go and see my friend Margot. Hello, Margot, how are you?" nothing-really-happening variety. Hence Eric Thompson's trippy rewrites - and the birth of the legend....

I do however, recall an 'episode' of MR as created by Brummie comedian Jasper Carrot, and used as the B-side to his hit single 'Funky Moped'. More subversive types, including Carrot himself, claim that the record's actual success can be attributed to this comical and it must be said, risquée, pastiche of MR rather than the song itself.
I have a transcription somewhere in a JC book, which at present escapes me, however the general plot followed the lines of the main male characters discussing Florence's amorous exploits in Toy Town...
If anyone has a copy of the song on record/tape I'd love to actually hear it one day...
Key: Complain about this post
