As 42donpanic and I work our way through the gaps in the Beatles' back catalogue, I thought I'd go for the album least likely to be picked up by anyone else.

Great entry! You should do the White Album next. smiley - winkeye I think I will do Abbey Road, then I will be done with writing about the albums.... smiley - smiley

'This album's obligatory Ringo track...'

I think this just sort of sounds weird. Maybe 'This album's obligatory track to be sung by Ringo...' or something to that effect. smiley - erm

I'll have a look at rewording that. smiley - winkeye

There's no chance of me doing any album post-Sergeant Pepper. I know all the serious musos love Abbey Road and the like, but I can't stick 'em. I prefer those early albums when they all still liked each other and were at their creative best.

Just added a few more notes and rewrote the line about Ringo's obligatory song.

Jimster,

I tremble as I draw your attention to this tiny typo:

(From the middle of the penultimate paragraph, before 'Meet the Beatles!')
"by the end of the year, after it had take Please Please Me's place" [after it had taken...]

I might be taking a risk here... but I was struck by the similarity between the following asterisked statements:

'It Won't Be Long'
"Published as a 'Lennon / McCartney' composition, this was pretty much a solo-work by John. He'd intended it to be a single but, *surprisingly, none of the songs on With The Beatles was released as a single*."

AND (just above 'Meet the Beatles!)

*Strangely, this would be the only Beatles album not to contain a song also released as a single.*

[Although not identical, these statements are closely related. Do you think it might be better to turn the second into a footnote, or perhaps, amalgamate them? You know I'll understand, if you disagree smiley - biggrin.]

Excellent Entry!

Cheers, RE! Yep, that line about there being no singles was one of the first things to strike me when I sat down to listen to the album again the other week. I wasn't sure if I'd written it in and I must have missed it when I scanned the entry. Thanks for that!

And with that, I think I'm done here.

A friend of mine copied the first three albums onto cassette for me when we were about nine years old. he plugged his cassette recorder into his radiogram using a long grey DIN lead, but it could still pick up some of the noise in the room. In between each track it's possible to hear me, my mate and his sister singing along to the records, beating each other up and generally making lots of noise. I'm guessing their parents were out when we recorded the tapes smiley - smiley
