A nice thorough little overview,

This gives the impression that pyramids got bigger and bigger as the years progressed. In fact, the biggest pyramid ever built was also one of the first. I don't have the exact details to hand, but I believe that the Great Pyramid (the biggest) was about the fifth pyramid, and that there were at least 70 built after that which were smaller.
