Maybe, but even so to have so much of it in the two hours since the article was posted is nice, so I just wanted to add my thanks.

Yeah, I had thought about doing that, but I thought I might (as you liked the idea of it) do a whole piece on William and I'd put that in their. Still thinking about. I'm guessing you like history then considering all the pointers and now your devouring one of my sources for this article?

Contempory Quotes
Don't know if ya want to use these, both form the Anglo Saxon Chronicles
Harold:
"He met little quiet as long as he ruled the realm"
William:
He was a very stern and violent man, so that no one dared do anything contary to his will...

Great entry! A few comments for you:
1. I would think about taking out the first sentence - guide entries generally are supposed to be timeless or nearly timeless or something. Also, there's a rogue "I" in there.
2. I know this entry is about the Battle of Hastings, but I wonder if it's worth saying more about Harold's supposed declaration of loyalty. I think he had gone to William's court to bring back some hostages when he became shipwrecked and was held captive by another ruler (Burgandy?) before being freed on the orders of William. I think I read somewhere that he made Harold swear on a coloured box, and that he didn't know that it contained saints bones or something.
3. Is it worth mentioning Halley's Comet and the Bayeux Tapestry?
Otto

For those who don't mind novelisations and a few factual liberties, a really good telling is Julian Rathbone's "The Last English King".

I take the point with regard to being timeless, but I think the approach of the 1000 year point for possibly the single most important event in the History of these Isles, and the last succesful invasion of them, should be noted. I'll re read and have a think. I'll remove the rogue I though. With regard to the others, I might try and work Halley's Comet and the Bayeux Tapestry in, but not at the mo as a bit busy at work (my ususal Hootoo time). I would prefer not to add anymore additional history such as Harold's Oath, I just don't feel it neccessary. A whole series of pages would be needed to deal with the whole history behind and around William, Harold and Hardrada. There just isn't enough space to mention much else without bringing in lot more information and the piece becoming bogged down in lots of additional Historical facts, theories and influences (IMHO), unless they directly relate to the Battle.

Halley's Comet and the Bayeux Tapestry are probaly worth noting
and as I noted earlier, as you did a small biog bit on William ("A Little About William"), Harold as the other main protagonist of this text should be treated to the same courtesy
It's looking good

Maybe you're right about Harold, but that would mean doing a bit about King Hardrada as well. I suppose it's worth thinking about. I'll have a think and might add something when I get chance.

as ya primly talking about the battle of Hastings I'm not sure if there is a need to do the same for King Hardrada as he didn't actually participate in the said battle

The only other thing I'd like to see a reference to is that there is now a small town/village at the site of the battle, around 5 miles from Hastings itself, called... Battle.

I'd like to put through a couple of the suggestions made.
I am generally happy with it though and will probable make those changes now!
Thanks

Nice entry.
Some typos and comments to be fixed:
' I thought it would be appropriate ' needs putting in the third person, eg, 'it seems appropriate'
King Hardrada - I've always heard him referred to as 'King Harold Hardrada'
support Williams claim > support William's claim
inherited his fathers mantle > inherited his father's mantle
furios > furious
lept > leapt
slipt > slipped
bailey5at > bailey5 at
HArold's Infantry > Harold's Infantry
trace there routes >trace their roots
Key: Complain about this post
