Rejection - it's enough to make you ill

From the Editors
Thank you ever so much for submitting your h2g2 Guide Entry entitled
"GuideML/HTML Feature Overload" for the approval of the Editors.
Unfortunately it hasn't quite managed to gain the approval of the
Editorial team, but perhaps the following comments from the Editor
concerned will help you to understand why.
"I have no choice but to reject this on account of the tragedy it caused. The new Assistant Editor, Sam Semple, was so taken aback by the pulsing, flashing screen, that it brought on a severe fit, followed by bouts of nausea. Dr Jack came to his aid only to catch a glimpse of the screen; he jumped back, and fell down the stairs. He's currently in the X-ray dept of the local hospital. Sam has recovered to some extent. The Doctors say that the psychological problems should have no long term effect. So, as much as we appreciate your efforts, the entry does in fact prove a very valid point - we're not yet sick enough to give it Approved Guide Entry status. Do feel free to submit some more entries, just make them less pukey..."
Still, I guess I can take comfort in the fact that it hurt them, apparently, as much as it hurt me

*chuckles* ... And you say NS is a bad thing.. Apparently it's immune to whatever is supposed to be on the page.

Hmmm, I don't remember making any comment about NS - but if the shoe fits ...
The page comprises a background image http://www.scifisites.com/~Bruce_Adams/pics/psycoulf.gif
& a background sound

Awesome stuff Bruce.
Whatever happened to your Aussie native bird entry with all the sound and pictures. Was it accepted?

Still waiting to hear - though it's disappeared from my list of unapproved Guide entries - so I guess some poor sub ed is wading through the code

Talking about poor subs. You might get a laugh out of my new yarm entitled Guidelines for h2g2 sub editors" It lives at http://www.h2g2.com/A258112

LOL - I liked it. Feel free to include the advice that lots of GuideML/HTML etc won't improve an entrys chances of approval, & in fact may hinder it. Here's an example of how the Birds page will appear for the subed http://www.h2g2.com/A184808

Nono.. I was referring to the page (re: bad thing), not this old, decrepit NS's inability to use animated .gifs for background images.

Not to mention informative enough to carry it's own weight without all the gadgets.
On the other hand, I think that just -maybe- an exception to the 'no images' rule should be made for the page. What's a bird reference without pictures of the species being described?

I believe some pages have been accepted in the past where the submitted pics were h2g2ised by the art team - maybe they'll do that for this one

I know I could just look up the article, but since your here and seemingly at least semi-concious...
Aren't the pics on that page of real birds? The graphics dept might find it a little inconvenient to fly to Sydney just to take fresh snapshots.

Yep the pics were real birds - in the past the Art dept has done cartooised h2g2 style pics in these circumstances - who knows what'll happen to the birds

Bruce, Mark Moxon has requested permission to use my list of sub editing rules. He wants to expand them and make them official h2g2 sub editing rules. It will be interesting to see what he does, if anything, to your bit about overuse of code.
If they drop your pics and sound from an official entry you will still have the original page. Maybe the sub will post a link to the original? Even if they don't you could post one in the forum linked to an official entry.

Mark's seen the Bird page code page - it's linked to from the GuideML Clinic pages under a similar heading.
I'm pretty sure they'll drop the sounds if they approve the page but I think it would detract from it if there were no pics.

Though it would be nice if they could just keep links to the sounds for those who wanted to bother downloading them.

(Who doubts they will, but it would still be nice. )
