Does anyone fancy writing 
an entry on say the history of clowns?

Opti, I think that would make a fascinating entry. I know if I undertake it at the minute I would probably take much too long, but I would definitely stick my oar into a collaborative one.
For one thing, there is the array of different forms the clown has had over the years - I'd probably include the harlequin type, the court jester, the circus clown as I knew him as a kid, and I would even include slapstick comedians like Charlie Chaplin.
I'd really like to see an entry like this in the guide.
