UK Counties & Regions - Wales - Anglesey

Although it's not strictly separate from its county of Gwynedd, I think it'd be great to have an expanded and improved Update of our existing entry on Anglesey - A218468 - which was written way back in 1999. Any takers?

Rhosneigr on the south-west corner of the island is a magnificent place to go to for watersports (windsurfing et c)as well as just lazing on the beach and chilling out. There is a nearby RAF base (Valley?) from which you can watch helicopters come and go, and on a late summer day in September, the curve of the bay and the landscape meeting the seascape is pure delight.
And always in Angelsey, wherever you go, the backdrop is the mountains of Snowdonia: wherever you are on the Island, look south and they are always there.
Approaching Angelsey on the North Wales coast road, you become aware of its presence from a long way away. The open sea fairly abruptly becomes a narrow channel and even today, the island appears to brood and forebode. It's easy to see how, two thousand years ago, Roman soldiers preparing to invade the Island must have been terrified at the unknown dark landmass that laid before them.

When I was a kid we used to sometimes do day trips to Anglesey from our home in Staffordshire - got very fond memories of the beach at Red Wharf Bay, fish and chips in Beaumaris, and the country park and sand dunes in the South West at Newborough Warren
Not sure if I contribute much more than that though...

And I'm afraid the only contribution I can make is that it was in Anglesey, aged 7, that my parents first realised that I suffered from Hayfever when we woke up on the first morning of our camping holiday only to find that my eyes had gotten so swollen up that the eyelashes had glued themselves together with pus... Probably not the most factual or informative of details, but true nontheless!
I'd suggest that it'd be a very nice fact-ette to include the places that the Ferry services from Holyhead go to...

I agree about Rhosneigr. 'Tis a lovely little place. And it is RAF Valley nearby.
The welsh name for Anglesey is Ynys Mon.
Oh, and it's fairly flat. Which can come as a surprise once you've driven through Wales to get there.

Are any of you interested in an update for the entry? There is some good information here.
We're using T-shirts as bribes as we'd like to get this project completed.
