why isn't there more Ian M banks on H2G2. I mean the discworld is everywhere. It really depresses me.

err okay.
how come diziet sma is the only character that has appeared twice.
There are loads of well decent characters that could come back. Lots of Minds with cool personalities.

Maybe Iain M Banks likes to be original, and create new characters for new stories. I'm sure some of the ships appear more than once, but it's been a while since I read the books.
I loved the Affront, though, and would like to read more about them.
Hi again, Fate!

Hi again Grey Area and I think You are right - some of the ships do appear more than once.. but it ages since I read them too.
There will be a Sci Fi Novel this year If he stays true to form...

does he release them once a year?
I just read all his books in a month so i wouldn't know.

There seems to be a pattern; a sci-fi novel, then a contempory novel, then a sci-fi one...
Let's hope for a new one, eh guys?

and of late the sci fi ones have gone - a culture one, a non culture one, a culture on.. etc.
And the last scifi one was aa non Culture one so.. HOPEFULLY the next one will be a Culture based one

OK, from reading the Iain Banks newsgroup (there is no difference between 'M' and non-'M' you know!). The next book is called "Look to Windward". It will be published in hardback in the UK in June/July. It is a culture book and (a first for Mr Banks) is a sequel to Consider Phlebas.
Apparently he hasn't done sequels in the past because he has too many good ideas that would be encumbered by re-using particular characters. As our hero is also rather loathe to do any research (bit obvious if you read The Business) he would have to re-read a previous book to write a sequel. Lets wait and see shall we ...

I look forward to his next Culture novel with breath that has been bated!!
Which reminds me, I haven't read the last one yet.
Fate, please don't wish May away, it is my favourite time of year.
May
Grey Area Posted Apr 20, 2000
Yes. It's because May is the time when the year is still young. When the weathers nice, it's not too hot, the trees are bright green, it's just so beautiful. With June comes Midsummer, and everything starts to decay...

Ah but with June comes my birthday - I always thought that August was more the zenith of the year and that it is the month when everything starts to die off.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
