It aint arf hard finding your way around this site.
However:
Has anybody got any 3n+1 sequences for me to look at?
I'm lazy and for me to do it would require me re-installing my C++ compiler, which could be a security hazard, since it instructs windows to accept exotic file types. (excuse)
Thanks

Sorry can't answer your question, however if you do get lost on h2g2 then simply click on your user name and you will always end up back at your personal space.
Also, you can click on "Front Page" at anytime to find some things that might be useful.

What the is a 3n+1 Conjecture?
Note to self: If you don't understand the question, don't even try to answer

Traveller in Time wondering of what use a simple program can be
"A program will only try to solve the question with more speed. You will still have to wait for eternity to know the answer.
Statement is there is no proof of a number where the trick does not work. testign any number does not prove anything, you would have to test every possible numebr to know for sure each does compute.
What is needed is either evidence of a number not computing or an equation proving it does compute for every number. "

Thanks, but how do you know infinity goes on forever, its not even a number, except maybe in measure theory.
It might just be a place a very long way away.

Traveller in Time on top
"Well I have had computers counting over MaxInt or whatever limit they have this is definitely not infinite in the mathematical way. It is just seconds away if I keep the loop efficient.
(testing) Just under 8 minutes for 10000000 values (all ending at 1)
I have calculated on fractals for years, I know the limitations of computers regarding finding the center of a vortex . "

Infinity might be a mathematical invention, look at all the bother you get into by just thinking about it. Fractals? are you a mathematician? I'm an arithmetician and we rule the Universe.
Now I saw a program on the BBC and this chap said that we are only here if we are looking.
So what is infinity if we don't look at it?
