You must really like to tempt fate putting a raw egg yolk in your mouth.
Too many eggs are produced in factory farms under unsanitary conditions resulting in Salmonella poinonings

for reading the column.
Personally I wouldn't dream of putting such a yukky thing in my mouth, I think the whole thing sounds ludicrous, but it truly is copied verbatim from a book of this era. Maybe eggs were a little more wholesome in those days?

More likely they just weren't concerned... A family member of ours has *very* free-range chickens, and I wouldn't touch those eggs raw... After all, chicken poo is chicken poo wherever the eggs are laid!
