What's more frightening than Donald Rumsfeld?

How about Donald Rumsfeld with his very own spy agency, authorized to do more than just collect information?

"US crusade to democratise Middle East"

"IF US President George W Bush is serious about fostering democracy in the Middle East, he is adopting an odd approach. He has given Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defence, the green light to create his own personal Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and send covert teams of US Special Forces and intelligence agents into "target countries" - such as Indonesia, Somalia, Yemen, Georgia, the Philippines and others - to curb terrorism and influence policy."

I was going to say something frivolous, such as "I don't know what - how about Ebola?" then I saw your answer, and it's breathtakingly scary! smiley - aliensmile

This is a disaster...

Probably did, anhaga... In a way, I am sort of weirded out by all this - I just got sent some stuff from Nigel, and was looking at Truthout (30 odd in my inbox) and am overwhelmed.

Scared, but no, not surprised...

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

Frankly, I'm with George Monbiot on the matter of Wolfowitz and the world bank. I think it's brilliant news.

Now the rest of the world will be *forced* to sit up and take notice of the way in which in which the US manipulates bothe the World Bank and the WTO, rather than just ignoring the way it has all been rigged in the US's favour since 1945.

I must admit, I saw the front cover of The Guardian - Monbiot backs Wolfowitz as best choice ever - and thought it must be a delayed April Fools prank (nice one, George!). But you're right, it's a very cogent argument.

What the rest of the world can actually do about it is another matter. It may be preferable to drop the pretence that the World Bank is not a plaything of the US ... but it's still going to be a plaything of the US. While the IMF is a plaything of the various EU finance ministeries. Which are in turn playthings of the US. Hey ho.
