Ms Curtis, or may I call you Tony...
*I* was the first person to mention eight year olds on the thread, in a bit of topic drift where I mentioned South Park. Actually, it wasn't topic drift, because afaik this thread is about censorship, not Christianity...
I'm finding your contributions hard to take seriously, partly because of the excrable spelling and punctuation, and partly because of exchanges like this:
"Teens with old men is perfectly legal and natural."
(on being challenged on this point)
"Futhermore why assume its always older men approaching younger women? Women do appraoch men you know."
Even though the poster didn't "assume" older men - you did!
If you're bored and looking for an argument, start an argument thread on "Ask h2g2" - don't just try to hijack other people's conversations.

Fair cop Peet.
I missed a small but vital point.
Mia culpa.
I took Dela saying teens with teens is ok, followed closely by, old men with boys is wrong, to be a view that it was one way traffic with older males only after younger persons.
Its easily done though as you managed to miss my point about programmes that deal with the media being worth mentioning in this thread.
If you dont want to take my postings seriously you are at complete liberty to do so. You obviously arent interested enough to ask why my spelling and grammar were worse than usual so I wont explain why.
I wasnt hijacking other peoples conversations, they belong to no one, and besides that you may have missed if you have read the baclog that the thread began because of pressure on the BBC not to show JStO by a group caling themselves *christian* voice.

I'd like to just experience 'funky badger love'
I suppose if I have sex with black AND white people who are quite furry (and I like the furry ones) then I should be able to.
8 year olds.
I wanted to mention this age as well so that those who've mentioned it in the past felt positive...

Jerry already had a show in the UK... It was a short run, on Channel 5 iirc. It wasn't a circus like his US show; more a chat show in the "Letterman" mould.

The thing that comes across from looking at the objections to the screening or even existence of JStO as a peice of fiction is that it is somehow blasphemous and demeaning to the bigG, Jesus and christians.
I dont remeber any Satanists coming out of wherever it is Satanists come out of to complain in such mob rule style behaviour about the fictional representation of Satan in ANYTHING. Not even where he was the bitch in the sub-dom relationship with Saddam in "south Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut".
I can only imagine it is because they can recognise what is fiction and believe that the truth (subjective) of what he is and stands for is enough to stand up to the ridicule of playwrites and TV stations.
I also wonder if if the characters in JStO had been renaimed ortherwise slightly removed from the popular conceptions of who Jehova and the Christ are would there have still been the same up roar and lawlessness?

One must remember that most people who objected to the showing of the Jerry Springer Opera did so before it was broadcast. And most of the objectors, if not all, did not bother to watch it when it was broadcast.
So why or how did they have the right to object? Object to what? Something they had not seen and refused to see? How weird is that?

He did? I am sure that deep down, he would prefer a more Letterman type show, but unfortunately he's stuck with the circus...

Jerry Springer The Opera. - Ofcom ruling out
Alfster Posted May 9, 2005
Here is the link to the OFcom ruling of Jerry Springer the Opera.
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv/obb/prog_cb/pcb61/
For some reason when I downloaded the file I had to change the file type to PDF before it would open.
Basically, Ofcom said the program did not breach any guidelines at all. If you were shocked by watching it then why did you watch it? There were enough warnings before it and it was after the watershed. And also it was a challenging subject.
They said that the main offence was in a dream sequence that was a metaphor for the fictional Jerry Springer and his chat show.
Ofcom also took into account the Beebs internal committee.
Ofcom also listed the number of complaints they had along with a number of supporting e-mails as well.
Hurrah for Ofcom and allowing us adults to be adults and be able to watch challenging TV like The JS Opera.

I know this is an aside, but having read the entirety of the document, it intrigues me greatly that the two, greatest issues of complaint (with a staggering total of 4 complainants each) was a matter of "offence" on the "Not the Royal Wedding" Channel 4 programme of April 6th and a "religious" problem on Bremner Bird and Fortune, again on Channel 4.
Every other issue raised had no more than 2 complainants per note. Most had only one. It stuns me to think that people actually bother. Still, I suppose in a world of freedom of speech and expression...

Rather off topic other than reagrding complaints about being offended - there was an item in our local news about residents protesting about a 'sex shop' that had opened up within a garage shop. Apparently no objections were made when the application was made & apart from the signs denoting 'Adult store, over 18s only' outside & on the inner door, I thought it looked pretty discreet.
Complainants seemed to think it was inappropriate because children used the main shop.

I think that's perfectly appropriate; after all, virtually all children come about as a result of sex!

Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque Posted May 10, 2005
there is 1 clue as to how Jerry Springer feels about his show and the people in it
he took a part in a film (forget the name) where he plays the host of a show similar to his, in which the guests are mocked as incestuous poor white trash
doesn't suggest a man who respects his audience

I'd read an interview in one of our local Sunday papers with Jerry Springer, in which he said he said he wanted to get involved in serious television and politics.
