Have a read of a book called "Fast Food Nation" bya chap called Eric Schlosser.

It will put you off McDonalds for life.
He makes the point that McDonalds is one of the most litigeous companies in the world and they have never sued or challanged anything he says... That says a lot if you ask me.

Just don't read the book when you feel you may become nauseous easily. The insights offered into how burgers are produced aren't a pleasant read.

Eric Schlosser has more recently written a book called 'Reefer Madness and Other Tales From the American Underground'. A copy presently nestles on my shelf, but a combination of revision and h2g2 is keeping me from reading it at present.

RFJS, it is very good IMO but not as good as FFN.

Well, my exams finish tomorrow so I'll get time to find out for myself soon enough.

Yes, KFC can be revoltingly greasy! But at our local mall, they serve KFC chicken burgers with salad, which are quite nice, and if anything a bit dry. So, if I want fast food, that's what I get.

It is amazing just how much money is spent on pot. Really stupid anyway. I don't bother with the stuff myself, wouldn't even if it was legal, but I can't see it being any worse than booze or tobacco...

Well I used to me a massive "Caner" but I basically grew out of it.
My opinion however is that it is certainly *less* harmfull than alcohol, (having abused both) and that most of the problems associated with Cannabis come from its illegality ( F19585?thread=377422&post=4819947#p4819947 sums up my views on the topic)

"The US distributors of Michael Moore's controversial documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 are to appeal a decision by US censors to give it a restrictive rating."

They just don't give up, do they? Looks like the censors are trying every cheap trick in the book.

In a way though it could be good, assuming they win the ratings battle it probably means more publicity and more people seeing it.
I doubt it will make too many shrub fans change their mind, but if it energises the "Anyone but bush" campaign into a huge turnout it will be a good thing.

"The film shows graphic footage of corpses of US soldiers being burnt, dragged behind a truck and strung up, and a scene of US soldiers apparently mistreating Iraqi prisoners.
Moore said: "It is sadly very possible that many 15- and 16-year-olds will be asked and recruited to serve in Iraq in the next couple of years.
"If they are old enough to be recruited and capable of being in combat and risking their lives, they certainly deserve the right to see what is going on in Iraq.""
First of all, I am sure that most people have seen the very footage before. Secondly, as Mr. Moore says, many of them are likely to see the real thing for themselves if they are recruited.
I was listening to something the other day where Joe Schlesinger, a reporter who has been in the field for most of the conflicts in the last 50 years, said that the reason politicians like to keep control over reporters in the field is less for "security" and more to prevent the public back home from seeing the real horrors of war. He says that if more people saw what the reporters in such places as Rwanda, Vietnam, Central America, the former Yugoslavia, and Middle East have seen and been prevented from showing in their full glory, few people would be so gung-ho about the wars their leaders start.
Here is his story on the "Highway of Death": http://archives.cbc.ca/IDC-1-71-593-3127/conflict_war/gulf_war/clip15
