PS - any other non-language-specific techniques you use for it would be appreciated, if you can divulge. I'm very intrigued by how some AI bots I've seen work.

Its not going to be too sophisticated but it should be ready in a couple of weeks.

I suppose I can gleam a bit using just common sense for the time being by analysing AIML files from the Pandorabots [http://www.pandorabots.com/].
