All eyes on mars?
If the universe is infinite, then im "a" center, 21+4^1+8+9=42 Started conversation Aug 18, 2003
I just received this in my new scientist news letter:
The last time the Red Planet shone so brightly in the Earth's skies, the only ones gazing upon it were the Neanderthals. Take a good look this week, advises David L. Chandler, because something strange is happening to the Martian surface
i was just wondering if anybody knows anything about this? I know its probably better for the astronmy section but i want to get this one going a bit.

Its the closest it has been for 60 000 years, the closest date is the 27th of this month. The something strange is that the south polar ice-cap is melting.

Mars is the biggest thing up there besides the moon right now and it even looks a bit like a redish light. Not bright whiteyou really cannot miss it. It rises and sets like the moon too.

Actually I think it will only be closer to the earth than at any time in the last 60,000 years on August 27th itself. Right now (Aug 20th), it has been this close to the earth on many occasions in more recent history.
I have seen it on a few nights, and I have to say it looks quite beautiful.

It's now the 27th and it looks like the sky will to be too cloudy to see anything (where I am, anyway).
How's the weather doing where you are?
