Under construction, or a simple exclamation?! smiley - smiley

Under construction but also and exclaimation after the day I had yesterday. Have now updated the title to make it clear to everyone (I hope) smiley - smiley

Fair play. I've had that sort of week - my office is ridiculously hot, and Mark just canned one of my entries (though he did at least tell me why, unlike all the other editors - nice entry, not enough "meat"!)

Post 4

Ginger The Feisty

I still haven't had any canned or accepted - at least you have had some feedback - I get the feeling that the acceptance criteria have become more stringent since Mark took over but I think that is a good thing!

Are you able to come to the rounders btw? Details can be found at http://www.h2g2.com/P97788

Not sure about the rounders yet, although I have read the pages (wot - no one hand one bounce rule smiley - smiley ) Will know soonish (may or may not be in Doncaster! Still, if not, London is only 40 mins on the train!) As for Mark, 1) He's a bloody good writer (check out his site at http://www.moxon.net ), 2) he's not letting in any old crap, unlike the old editors, and 3) he wants a proper guide. By this, I mean he doesn't just want one-liners and won't even accept them from the h2g2 staff!! Good man. Oh, and 4) the "rejection" process has sped up considerably, despite the fact he sometimes even writes personal replies. Long may he reign over h2g2!!! (c) Moxon fan club smiley - winkeye

I hope this doesn't mean we're going to have to be factually correct in our submissions. I'm not very good with facts. I'm more if a wild over-generalisations man...

?!!

Post 8

Ginger The Feisty

I prefer wildly exaggerated facts - that way you can always claim they have some basis in truth!

?!!

Post 9

The Dancing Tree

It basically means he wants "meaty" articles, rather than the typical one-liners of many of the early pages. http://www.h2g2.com/A76745 (Alcatraz) is a very good example of how *not* to write a page (and has also been demoted from Guide Entry to User Page!!)

It doesn't matter if you get some of the facts wrong, just so long as there are some facts there, and you're not just trying to be funny for the sake of it. Like Paul Daniels.

That's OK then. I see what you mean about Alcatraz. Still, I suppose you can't be gorgeous, intelligent and write good prose. Just look at me... OK, I don't do that well on the other 2 either, but you get the jist. I'll have to get a bit more fact intensive with a few of my entries.

There's a few of mine that probably could do with a second going over - I'll look at yours if you look at mine!

Oo-er. *Ahem*. Just had a peek at The Greenland Kipper and Bombay Duck. They look pretty good to me - almost good enough to eat (sorry), and oddly enough, adhere rather closely to whatever I was waffling on about higher up this thread.

Hmmm, I'll have to try and do some reserch on the manufacture of Bombay Duck, which as well as adding a bit of hard fact, those facts should be gut-wrenching enough to feed my perverse being.

Ginger, of course, I'd be delighted to take a look at yours smiley - winkeye, and have been doing so a number of times. Your pages are superb, and you have taught me more code in the last 3 days than a year of running a company intranet (so you see how much code you need to know to do that!! Outsourcing, I love it...) I'm not sure I'll be able to make the rounders match, but may be in the area on Sunday.

This appeared briefly in the 5 busiest today so I thought I'd better put some text in this article. If anyone knows which WTP book pooh sticks first appeared in can they let me know? Full credit for the info will be given!

It's either from the original book "Winnie the Pooh", or "The House at Pooh Corner". The game was originially called "PoohBridge" by Mr Milne, which was later amended to "Poohsticks". It was changed to Poohsticks because Pooh and friends played with "sticks instead of fir-cones because they were easier to mark". Mr Milne doing a bit of field research!!

I have found somewhere where we can play virtual pooh sticks!!
