This is slightly longer than 1 min, cause the H2G2 server died (rant!)on my when I was uploading this, so I fleshed it out at the weekend
Okay, for those who don't know, Manchester has one of the busiest bus routes in Europe. Regularly busses go from the city centre, past the 3 universities (2 + the poly)and into South Manchester, past the majority of the student halls (generally referred to as Owens Park, or Fallowfield)
Most halls and universities give freshers details of which busses go where (almost all of those that stop at the unis go to Owen’s Park), the bus stops give details, and to be even more hand, most busses say on the front via Fallowfield or Via Owens Park.
So Fresher’s Week (and normally 2 weeks after as well for the art students who haven't get found their way out of bed (or somebody else’s)) the same ritual happens ...
Bus pulls up at first uni stop (UMIST) person gets on
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "yes", person pays
next person gets on .
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "yes", person pays. - next person gets on .
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "yes", person pays. - next person gets on .
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "yes", person pays. - next person gets on .
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "yes", person pays
20 people later the bus heads off towards the Man Met stop
person gets on .
Then the 1st of 2 uni stops
person gets on .
Then the second
person gets on .
For a double decker to load up with 80 students, each asking ...
Even if you get the one other bus, the one that doesn't go past Owens Park ..
person gets on .
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "no", person gets off
Next person gets on
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "no", person gets off
Next person gets on
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "no", person gets off
Next person gets on
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "no", person gets off
Next person gets on
"does this go to Owens Park ?"
Driver - "no", person gets off
all it takes is to listen to the person in front, or read the bus stop, the uni pamphlets or even look at the route plan of the side of some of the busses
