Special Character codes: some reorganisation work

Ligatures
Named Entity ENTITY Tag Character Description
ΠΠLatin capital ligature oe
œ œ Latin lower case ligature oe
Š Š Latin capital letter s with caron
š š Latin lower case letter s with caron
Ÿ Ÿ Latin capital letter y with diaeresis
Now, is it just me, or are only two of those actually ligatures?
How about this:
Ligatures
Named Entity ENTITY Tag Character Description
ΠΠLatin capital ligature oe
œ œ Latin lower case ligature oe
æ
Æ
Ǽ
ǽ
fi
fl
(These were pasted in from Windows XP character map, Times New Roman. When I hit preview, they changed from being characters to being &#xx; codes, both in the preview pane and in the text entry box.)
(Times New Roman has two sets of fi- and fl-ligatures. The first two are labelled "Private Use", so I now always use the second set, which will, presumably, continue to be ligatures should I change font.)
The remaining bits of that table should be removed, as they are not ligatures, and put in a separate table, thus:
Diacritics
Named Entity ENTITY Tag Character Description
Š Š Latin capital letter s with caron
š š Latin lower case letter s with caron
Ÿ Ÿ Latin capital letter y with diaeresis
And what about this?
‰ ‰ Per mille sign
€ Euro sign
That should surely be
‰ ‰ Per mille sign
€ € Euro sign
Actually, all of these work:
€
€
(but perhaps not on all browsers).
